The work of Sulpicius Alexander as extracts in Gregory's Decem Libri Historiarum ( II 9 ) is considered an important source in any discussion of the origin of the Frankish tribes.

In 531, according to the Decem Libri of Gregory of Tours, the decisive battle between the Franconians and Thuringians took place along the Unstrut, which resulted in the destruction and annexation of the early medieval Thuringian kingdom by the Frankish empire.

Gregory of Tours in his Libri Historiarum VII, 33, states that in 585 the Merovingian king Guntram designated his nephew Childebert II his heir by handing him his lance, it is possible that a royal lance was a symbol of kingship among the Merovingian kings and that a nail from Calvary was in the 7th century incorporated into this royal lance and thus eventually would have come into the German imperial regalia.

The historian William Kendrick Pritchett criticizes Hammond's rationale as " subjective " and counters it with a passage from Historiarum Philippicarum Libri XLIV of the 3rd-century AD Roman historian Justin.

His chief work is a Historia Francorum, or Libri v de Gestis Francorum, which deals with the history of the Franks from the earliest times to 653, and was continued by other writers until the middle of the twelfth century.

In 1749 Peter Harrison adopted the design of his Redwood Library in Newport, Rhode Island, more directly from Palladio's Quattro Libri, while his Brick Market, also in Newport, of a decade later is also Palladian in conception.

It is the only existing work of colonial academic architecture that was principally designed from a plate in Andrea Palladio ’ s Quattro Libri. The house was designed by the architect William Buckland in 1773 – 74 for wealthy farmer Matthias Hammond of Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

Its next owner was Guiglielmo Libri ( b. 1802, d. 1869 ), who is most famous for stealing medieval mansucripts from French public libraries ; he sold it to the London book dealers Payne and Foss, who in turn sold to the British Museum in November 1845.

The name Egeria has been diversely interpreted ; it might mean " of the black poplar " ( needs source ); George Dumézil proposed it came from " e-gerere ", suggesting it came from her childbirth role, though this sounds very unlikely ; her role as prophetess and author of " sacred books " ( even through the proxy of Numa ) would compare her to the Etruscan figure of Vegoia ( alleged author among other things of " Libri Fulgurales ", which give keys to interpreting the meaning of lightning strokes, seen as ominous messages from deities, a variety of them ).

Among them are Secretum (" My Secret Book "), an intensely personal, guilt-ridden imaginary dialogue with Augustine of Hippo ; De Viris Illustribus (" On Famous Men "), a series of moral biographies ; Rerum Memorandarum Libri, an incomplete treatise on the cardinal virtues ; De Otio Religiosorum (" On Religious Leisure ") and De Vita Solitaria (" On the Solitary Life "), which praise the contemplative life ; De Remediis Utriusque Fortunae (" Remedies for Fortune Fair and Foul "), a self-help book which remained popular for hundreds of years ; Itinerarium (" Petrarch's Guide to the Holy Land "); a number of invectives against opponents such as doctors, scholastics, and the French ; the Carmen Bucolicum, a collection of 12 pastoral poems ; and the unfinished epic Africa.

The last was composed of the Libri Fatales, detailing the religiously correct methods of founding cities and shrines, draining fields, formulating laws and ordinances, measuring space and dividing time ; the Libri Acherontici, dealing with the hereafter ; and the Libri Ostentaria, containing rules for interpreting prodigies.

All three works were combined in a single large volume, entitled De Statu Libri Tres, 1615, which was first brought into due notice by Dr Samuel Parr, who, in 1787, published an edition with a preface, famous for the elegance of its Latinity, in which he eulogized Burke, Fox and Lord North as the " three English luminaries.

Palazzo Chiericati ( above ) by Palladio ( c. 1550 ) has a superposed colonnade similar to that at West Wycombe, but the inspiration for the south front may have been Palladio's reconstruction of Vitruvius's Roman villa illustrated in his Quattro Libri.

He is noted for his translation of Geoffrey Chaucer's Troilus and Criseyde into Latin verse ( as rime royal, Amorum Troili et Creseidae Libri Quinque, 1639 ).

He edited the Aramaic translation ( known as the Targum ) of the Prophets according to the Codex Reuchlinianus preserved at Carlsruhe, Prophetae chaldaice ( 1872 ), the Hagiographa chaldaice ( 1874 ), an Arabic translation of the Gospels, Die vier Evangelien, arabisch aus der Wiener Handschrift herausgegeben ( 1864 ), a Syriac translation of the Old Testament Apocrypha, Libri V. T. apocryphi syriace ( 1865 ), a Coptic translation of the Pentateuch, Der Pentateuch koptisch ( 1867 ), and a part of the Lucianic text of the Septuagint, which he was able to reconstruct from manuscripts for nearly half the Old Testament.

Delisle proved that the bulk of the manuscripts of French origin which Lord Ashburnham had bought in France, particularly those bought from the book-seller Jean-Baptiste Barrois, had been purloined by Count Libri, inspector-general of libraries under King Louis-Philippe, and he procured the repurchase of the manuscripts for the library, afterwards preparing a catalogue of them entitled Catalogue des manuscrits des fonds Libri et Barrois ( 1888 ), the preface of which gives the history of the whole transaction.

He is most noted for his work, In Hoc Opere Haec Continentur Nova Translatio Primi Libri Geographicae Cl Ptolomaei, written in 1514, a translation of the work Geographia ( Ptolemy ), written by Ptolemy.

In 1072 he compiled for the Emperor Michael Parapinakes a compendium of law, which supplements the Libri Basilici.
