Design patent issued to Leo Fender for the second-generation Precision Bass

Bill Black, playing with Elvis Presley, adopted the Fender Precision Bass around 1957.

In 1951, Leo Fender independently released his Precision Bass, the first commercially successful electric bass guitar.

For his first local gigs in the early 1970s and Rush's debut album, Lee used a Fender Precision Bass.

In 1957, Fender introduced a split pickup to its Precision Bass, which was wired in humbucking fashion, with one coil serving the E and A strings, the other the D and G strings.

Mendel's main set-up consists of Fender Precision Basses with GHS strings, played through Ashdown amplifiers.

The guitars, bass guitars, and amplifiers he designed from the 1940s on are still relevant: the Fender Telecaster ( 1950 ) was the first mass-produced electric guitar ; the Fender Stratocaster ( 1954 ) is among the world's most iconic electric guitars ; the Fender Precision Bass ( 1951 ) set the standard for electric bass guitars ; and the Fender Bassman amplifier, popular enough in its own right, became the basis for later amplifiers ( notably by Marshall and Mesa Boogie ) that dominated rock and roll music.

The " Fender Bass " was a revolutionary new instrument, one that could easily be played by an electric guitarist, could be easily transported to a gig, and could be amplified to just about any volume without feeding back ".

The Fender Jazz Bass is often associated with disco bass lines, because the instrument itself has a very prominent " voice " in the musical mix.

Soon after, Geddy began using the Fender Jazz Bass which was used on Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, Signals and the supporting tours.

In 1998, Fender released the Geddy Lee Jazz Bass, available in Black and 3-Color Sunburst ( as of 2009 ).

For the 2010-2011 Time Machine Tour Lee added the alchemical symbol for " Amalgamation " to the body of his Fender Jazz Bass guitar.

The partnership lasted for six years with the model marketed as the Fender Rhodes Piano Bass, a 32-note version with only the low range of the piano, accounting for the bulk of the sales.

At the age of 14, Jones became choirmaster and organist at a local church and during that year, he also bought his first bass guitar, a Dallas solid body electric followed by multiple basses in which he part exchanged until he finally bought his 1962 Fender Jazz Bass which he used until 1976.

After " retiring " his Fender Jazz Bass in 1975, which he had been using since his days with The Shadows in the early 1960s, Jones switched to using custom-designed Alembics ( as seen here ) while out on the road.

" This " split pickup ", introduced in 1957, appears to have been two mandolin pickups ( Fender was marketing a four string solid body electric mandolin at the time ).

After the lawsuit period Hoshino Gakki introduced Ibanez models that were definitely not copies of the Gibson or Fender designs such as the Iceman and The Ibanez Roadstar.

In 1969 the 73-note Mark I Stage Piano was introduced as a one-piece alternative to the Suitcase style, featuring four detachable legs ( used in Fender steel pedal guitars ), a sustain pedal with an adjustable pushrod ( the main component in a Rogers hi-hat ) and a single output ( mislabeled INPUT ) for use with an outboard guitar cabinet or other source of amplification.

Floyd Rose collaborated with Fender to design a Fender Deluxe Locking Tremolo, introduced in 1991 on the Strat Plus Deluxe, the USA Contemporary Stratocaster, and the Strat Ultra.

Some examples of this are the Fender Jazz Bass, introduced in 1960, which has used a pair of single coil pickups, one near the bridge and another one about half way between the bridge and the neck, and many Stratocaster style guitars, which often have 3 pickups with the middle one reversed electrically and magnetically.

Along with the Precision Bass ( so named because its fretted neck allowed bassists to play with ' precision '), Fender introduced a bass amplifier, the Fender Bassman ; a 45-watt amplifier with four 10 " speakers ( although initially with one 15 " speaker ).

The Doors was thus initially a quintet, but when Manzarek decided to handle the bass duties with the newly introduced Fender Rhodes PianoBass, Pat Sullivan was dropped from the line-up in December 1965, ultimately ending up with the " classic " quartet.

In 1956, Danelectro introduced the six-string Baritone guitar, which would be adopted by other companies such as Fender with the Fender VI.

With the rising popularity of using pickups in combination, Fender introduced a new feature in 1977 coinciding with the standard 5-position switch ; a reverse-wound, reverse-polarity middle pickup.

In September 2010 Fender introduced the Mexican-made Black Top Stratocaster HH.

Later on, Fender introduced the now standard five-way selector switch, which uses additional detents between the original three positions to allow the combinations of any two adjacent pickups.

Boss has since released several pedals using COSM, including the FBM-1 ' 59 Fender Bassman pedal and FDR-1 ' 65 Fender Deluxe Reverb pedal, introduced at the Winter NAMM show in January 2007.

The Fender Zone is a fretted electric bass, introduced in 2001.

Fender recognized the need for a purpose-designed surf-guitar, and introduced the 24 " scale Fender Jaguar, with a shorter scale, built-in mute, chrome decorations and more Strat-like pickups.

In May 2008 Fender introduced the Classic Player Series Jazzmaster, which is made in Mexico.

Before the Fender Squier series was introduced in 1982, Fender was making lower priced guitars such as the Fender Lead series at its Fullerton California plant.
