The revival of Emanuel Bach's works has been underway since Helmuth Koch's rediscovery and recording of his symphonies in the 1960s, and Hugo Ruf's recordings of his keyboard sonatas.

He also starred in the visual accompaniment to his recordings of Bach's Six Suites for Unaccompanied Cello.

He also made a number of recordings, including the first complete traversal of Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier for EMI, recorded between 1933 and 1936.

Richard Adeney performed in notable recordings, such as Johann Sebastian Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, which was recorded under Britten's baton, or in his St Matthew Passion conducted by David Willcocks.

His recordings also include earlier literature such as Debussy's Études, Schumann's works for solo piano, Beethoven's late sonatas and Diabelli Variations, and Bach's Art of Fugue and Goldberg Variations.

In Leipzig, an enormous archive with recordings of all of Bach's music was compiled, along with many historical documents and letters both to and from him.

One of his most famous recordings is a 1954 recording of Bach's solo violin sonatas and partitas played using a violin with what was referred to as the Bach ( or Vega ) bow, which could be adjusted so the player could play three or even all four strings of the violin at once.

Grumiaux's recordings of Bach's Sonatas & Partitas for Unaccompanied Violin are frequently cited as a supreme reflection of the violinist's art and as first choices among the many recordings available.

In the studio he recorded concertos and chamber orchestra performances of Bach and Mozart, and of the Concerti grossi, op. 6 by Handel ; his recordings of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos brought them to prominence after many years of relative obscurity.

There were also recordings of four of Bach's two and three Keyboard Concertos, issued by Columbia, under the baton of Eugene Ormandy, Pierre Deveux and Edmund de Stoutz.

Under his leadership the orchestra issued ( for the Decca label ) numerous recordings, mostly during the 1950s and 1960s, and mostly of Bach's output ; these included the Brandenburg Concertos ( three times ), the orchestral suites, the St. Matthew Passion, the St. John Passion, the Musical Offering, and the Christmas Oratorio.

Major recordings include Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations and several recordings with the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra.

The first of many recordings by him appeared in 1975 ; among them are J. S. Bach's lute works and the complete guitar works of Per Nørgård.

His non-operatic recordings include the Angel Raphel in Haydn's Die Schöpfung, Bach's Christmas Oratorio, and the Mozart / Süssmayr Requiem.

He has also been involved with many early recordings and performances of both solo and orchestral works including J. S. Bach's Brandenburg Concerto # 2, Béla Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra, Aaron Copland's Quiet City, Joseph Haydn's Concerto for Trumpet in Eb, Alexander Scriabin's The Poem of Ecstasy, Georg Philipp Telemann's Concerto for Trumpet in D, and Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Trumpets in C.

A number of projects, many with recordings new to Gavrilov's discography, were announced in 1992 but not realized: Bach's English Suites, the complete Beethoven piano concerti, the Choral Fantasia and the Diabelli Variations, as well as vaguer plans for works by Liszt ( Transcendental Etudes, Paganini Etudes ), Ravel's complete works for piano solo and with orchestra, and the piano concertos of Grieg and Schumann.

Choral Evensong ( or, on red-letter days, Holy Mass ) is currently sung on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays during full term, in addition to which the Choir sings for Gaudy Evensongs, for Special Feasts and Ceremonies ( including the All Souls Requiem, Remembrance, the Advent and Christmas Carol Services, Ash Wednesday, and the Passiontide service ) and for frequent concerts, commercial events, foreign tours, CD recordings and broadcasts.

Beecham conducted the full premiere of A Mass of Life in London in 1909 ( he had premiered Part II in Germany in 1908 ); he staged the opera A Village Romeo and Juliet at Covent Garden in 1910 ; and he mounted a six-day Delius festival in London in 1929, as well as making gramophone recordings of many of Delius's works.

A growing interest in witchcraft and satanism in the 1960s inspired the creation of two recordings, both made in 1968, and both called " Satanic Mass ":

Ray Charles also issued his Modern Sounds recordings, which departed from his well-known R & B and soul style to conceptually country music records.

His # 1 R & B hit that year, " Cold Sweat ", sometimes cited as the first true funk song, was the first of his recordings to contain a drum break and the first that featured a harmony that was reduced to a single chord.

Songs such as " I Know You Got Soul " by Bobby Byrd, " Think ( About It )" by Lyn Collins and " Doing It to Death " by Fred Wesley & The J. B .' s are considered as much a part of Brown's recorded legacy as the recordings released under his own name.

Brown's " Papa Don't Take No Mess " would be his final single to reach the # 1 spot on the R & B charts and his final Top 40 pop single of the 1970s, though Brown continued to occasionally have Top 10 R & B recordings.

After " Get Up Offa That Thing ", thirteen of Brown's late 1970s recordings for Polydor, failed to reach the Top 10 of the R & B chart, with only " Body Heat " in 1976 and the disco-oriented " It's Too Funky in Here " in 1979 reaching the R & B Top 15 and the ballad " Kiss in ' 77 " reaching the Top 20.

Brown continued releasing recordings: in 1993, he issued the album, Universal James, which included Brown's final Billboard charted single, " Can't Get Any Harder ", which peaked at # 76 on the US R & B chart and # 59 on the UK chart.

According to Berry's biographer Mark A. Moore, " The song ( with backing vocals, plus additional instruments added by the Ernie Freeman combo ) had a raucous R & B flavor, with a bouncing bomp-bomp vocal hook that would become a signature from Jan on future recordings.

Gabler had previously been responsible for the highly successful string of R & B and jump blues recordings by Louis Jordan in the late 1940s, which were characterised by their strong beat, clearly enunciated lyrics and high production values, all features which Gabler sought to repeat in Haley's recordings.

R & B and soul music had a significant impact on Australian popular music, although it is notable that many seminal recordings in this genre by American acts of the late 20th century were not played on Australian radio.

The Kinks ' early recordings of 1964 ranged from covers of R & B standards like " Long Tall Sally " and " Got Love If You Want It "; to the chiming, melodic beat music of Ray Davies ' earliest original compositions for the band, " You Still Want Me " and " Something Better Beginning "; to the more influential proto-metal, protopunk, power chord-based hard rock of the band's first two hit singles, " You Really Got Me " and " All Day and All of the Night ".

Eventually, Moroder and Bellotte and Summer agreed to part ways with Geffen hiring top R & B and pop producer Quincy Jones to produce Summer's next album, the eponymously titled Donna Summer, released in 1982 and which took over six months to record, which was unusual for Summer's recordings.
