A couple of primitive cylinder recordings dating from about 1900 have been attributed by collectors to the dominant French baritone of the 1860s and 1870s, Jean-Baptiste Faure ( 1830 – 1914 ), the creator of Posa in Verdi's original French-language version of Don Carlos.

Giulini's most notable opera recordings include the 1959 Philharmonia Orchestra and Chorus versions of Mozart's operas The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni for EMI, as well as his live 1955 recording of Verdi's La traviata with Maria Callas.

He also made recordings of Verdi's Requiem and the Four Sacred Pieces, which were highly praised.

His other published complete opera recordings included La traviata with Rosanna Carteri, Cesare Valletti, and conductor Pierre Monteux, Pagliacci with Victoria de los Ángeles, Jussi Björling and Robert Merrill ; Tosca, Aida, and Il trovatore, each with Zinka Milanov and Jussi Björling ; a second recording of Il trovatore with his friend and final tenor co-star, Richard Tucker, featuring a young Leontyne Price in her Met debut role of Leonora ; and Verdi's Macbeth, with Leonie Rysanek and Carlo Bergonzi.

Other important commercial recordings include Rigoletto with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Carlo Bergonzi under Rafael Kubelík, Turandot with Birgit Nilsson and Franco Corelli under Francesco Molinari-Pradelli, I Pagliacci with José Carreras, Cavalleria rusticana with Plácido Domingo, Norma with Tatiana Troyanos, Otello ( Verdi's ), Adriana Lecouvreur and Andrea Chénier.

Her best recordings include a spectacular rendition of " Io son Titania " from Ambroise Thomas ' Mignon and " Saper vorreste " from Verdi's Un ballo in maschera, in which Tetrazzini's personality virtually jumps out of the grooves at the listener.

Therefore, most of his recordings of the standard operatic repertoire are sung in German, including Verdi's Rigoletto and Don Carlos.

Among her many other recordings are Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with the New York Philharmonic under Bernstein, the First Norn in Götterdämmerung with the Berlin Philharmonic under Herbert von Karajan, and Verdi's Requiem with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Erich Leinsdorf to name just a few.

With a few exceptions, she avoided foreign-language roles ( although recordings exist of her singing Don Carlos and Verdi's Requiem and all three Mozart / DaPonte operas in Italian ).

Her discography features complete recordings of Die Zauberflöte ( as the Queen of Night, conducted by Sir Thomas Beecham, 1937 – 38, for EMI ), and Rigoletto, with Jan Peerce and Leonard Warren, conducted by Renato Cellini ( 1950 ) which was the first RCA Victor complete opera recording ( with a few minor cuts ) made in the United States for commercial release.

Other notable recordings include ; Rigoletto, opposite Ileana Cotrubas and Placido Domingo, under Carlo Maria Giulini, Macbeth, opposite Shirley Verrett, and Simon Boccanegra, opposite Mirella Freni and Nicolai Ghiaurov, both under Claudio Abbado.

This resulted in the band's inclusion, alongside the likes of Wilko Johnson, 999, The Only Ones, the Saints, The Stranglers, and XTC, on a double album of recordings from the festival.

Some live performances of Monteux conducting the Metropolitan Opera, and among others the San Francisco Symphony, Boston Symphony, BBC Symphony and London Symphony orchestras survive alongside his studio recordings, and some have been issued on compact disc.

Hermeto's career began in 1964 with appearances on several Brazilian recordings alongside relatively unknown groups.

In 1943 he made his first recordings under his own name, alongside Nat Cole and Harry Edison.

McCracken made a number of complete opera recordings, including " Le prophète " ( with Marilyn Horne and Renata Scotto, ( Col / CBS ), c1976 ), " Carmen " ( conducted by Leonard Bernstein, ( DG ), 1972 ), " Fidelio " ( with Birgit Nilsson, ( Decca / London ), 1964 ), " Otello " ( with Dame Gwyneth Jones, ( EMI / Angel ), 1968 ) and " Pagliacci ", on which side 4 of the original LP version was a recital of opera arias, ( Decca / London ), ( 1967 ), as well as Schoenberg's Gurre-Lieder ( with Jessye Norman, Tatiana Troyanos and David Arnold, ( Phi ), 1979 ), and a program of Irish and Scottish songs with piano ( EMI / Angel ), 1977.

Examples of Scotto at her best are her Lucia di Lammermoor with Giuseppe di Stefano and Ettore Bastianini in a Mercury recording from 1959, as well as her Deutsche Grammophon recordings of La traviata with Gianni Raimondi and Ettore Bastianini and La bohème with Gianni Poggi and Tito Gobbi, both which were conducted by Antonino Votto in the early 1960s.
