The Dutch banking giant ING Groep N. V. headquartered its U. S. internet banking unit, ING Direct, in Wilmington.

On August 29, 2012, Scotiabank announced that it would acquire ING Direct Canada for $ 3. 13 billion dollars.

After completion of sale a gradual transfer will see the ING Direct Canada name disappear from the Canadian banking sector, but it will not impact the day to day business operations.
