On 21 May 1216, Prince Louis of France landed at Sandwich in support of the baron's war against King John.

On 15 August 1216 an assembly of all the magnates of Castile was held to attempt to reach an accord that would prevent civil war, but disagreements led the families of Girón, Téllez de Meneses, and Haro to break definitively with Álvaro de Lara.

The precarious peace that existed at the beginning of the century was destroyed in 1216, when two factions known as the Guelphs and the Ghibellines began to war.

Bohemond IV of Antioch ( or de Poitiers ) ( c. 1172 – March 1233 ), also known as the One-Eyed ( in French le Cyclops ), was ruler of the Principality of Antioch ( a crusader state ) between 1201 and 1205, again between 1208 and 1216, and again from 1219 until his death.

Raymond-Roupen was excluded from the succession, but even so Bohemond IV still lost the principality to his nephew, supported by Leo II of Armenia, between 1216 and 1219.

Raymond-Roupen of Antioch or Raimond Rupen de Poitiers ( 1199 – 1219 or 1221 / 1222 ) was Prince of Antioch between 1205 and 1208 and between 1216 and 1219 / 1221 and " Rex Iunior " of Armenia between 1199 and 1221 / 1222.

Not one of these histories, however, is to be compared in value with The History of William the Marshal, Count of Striguil and Pembroke, regent of England from 1216 – 1219, which was found and subsequently edited by Paul Meyer ( Société de l ' histoire de France, 3 vols., 1891 – 1901 ).

The number of such keeps remained relatively low: in England, for example, although several early stone keeps had been built after the conquest, there were only somewhere between ten and fifteen in existence by 1100, and only around a hundred had been built by 1216.

Although the collection ends in 1216, after the death of Innocent III, Migne originally wanted to include documents all the way up to the Reformation ; this task proved too great, but some later commentaries or documents associated with earlier works were included.
