A rival of King Władysław I the Elbow-high to the Polish crown, John supported the Teutonic Knights in the Polish – Teutonic War from 1326 to 1332.

John V Palaiologos ( or Palaeologus ) (, Iōannēs V Palaiologos ) ( 18 June 1332 – 16 February 1391 ) was a Byzantine emperor, who succeeded his father in 1341, at age nine.

The son of Philip VI and Joan the Lame, John became the Count of Anjou, Count of Maine, and Duke of Normandy in 1332.

John came of age on 26 April 1332, and received overlordship of the duchy of Normandy, as well as the counties of Anjou and Maine.
