Albrecht Altdorfer ( c. 1480-February 12, 1538 ) was a German painter, engraver and architect of the Renaissance working in Regensburg.

Christopher Clavius ( 25 March 1538 – 6 February 1612 ) was a German Jesuit mathematician and astronomer who was the main architect of the modern Gregorian calendar.

The university emerged from a Lutheran humanist German Gymnasium, founded in 1538 by Johannes Sturm in the Free Imperial City of Strassburg.
