At his return from Ethiopia, he married Virginie Vincent de Saint Bonnet in 1848, and settled in Hendaye where he purchased 250ha to build his castle, and became the mayor of the city from 1871 to 1875.

Wyatt Berry Stapp Earp ( March 19, 1848 – January 13, 1929 ) was a city policeman ( town assistant marshal ) in Wichita, Kansas, Dodge City, Kansas and Tombstone, Arizona.

Johann Adam Otto Bütschli ( Frankfurt, 3 May 1848 – Heidelberg, 2 February 1920 ) was a German zoologist and professor at the University of Heidelberg.

In 1848 he was made professor extraordinarius of Roman literature and archaeology, and soon afterwards professor ordinarius of history.

In 1848, Greenleaf retired from his active duties, and became professor emeritus.

He was superintendent of antiquities in the Bibliothèque at Paris from 1819 to 1848, and professor of archaeology at the Bibliothèque from 1826, a result of which may be seen in his Cours d ' archéologie ( 1828 ).
