At some time between 1826 and 1830 American artist George Cooke ( 1793 – 1849 ) made a copy of the painting in a smaller size, ( 130. 5 x 196. 2 cm ; approximately 4 ft × 6 ft ), which was shown in Boston, Philadelphia, New York and Washington, D. C. to crowds who knew about the controversy surrounding the shipwreck.
