Alexander Mackenzie, PC ( January 28, 1822 – April 17, 1892 ), a building contractor and newspaper editor, was the second Prime Minister of Canada from November 7, 1873 to October 8, 1878.

In a career lasting over sixty years, he served as Prime Minister four separate times ( 1868 – 1874, 1880 – 1885, February – July 1886 and 1892 – 1894 ), more than any other person.

The general election of 1892 resulted in a minority Liberal government under Gladstone as Prime Minister.
