Justinian II (, Ioustinianos II, ) ( 669 – 11 December 711 ), surnamed the Rhinotmetos or Rhinotmetus (, " the slit-nosed "), was the last Byzantine Emperor of the Heraclian Dynasty, reigning from 685 to 695 and again from 705 to 711.

Wu Zetian was born as Wu Zhao, in Lizhou ( 利州 ) ( modern day Guangyuan City in Sichuan Province ), or else in the imperial capital of Chang ' an, during the reign of Emperor Gaozu of Tang, and lived from 17 February 624 – 16 December 705 < ref name = death >

Emperor Zhongzong of Tang ( 唐中宗 ) ( 26 November 656 – 3 July 710 ), personal name Lǐ Xiǎn ( 李顯 ), at times during his life Li Zhe ( 李哲 ) and Wu Xian ( 武顯 ), was the fourth Emperor of the Tang Dynasty of China, ruling briefly in 684 and again from 705 to 710.

On 20 February 705, a palace coup deposed Wu Zetian and Emperor Zhongzong was restored as emperor three days later.

Aldfrith ( died 14 December 704 or 705 ) sometimes Aldfrid, Aldfridus ( Latin ), or Flann Fína mac Ossu ( Classical Irish ), was king of Northumbria from 685 until his death.

Aldfrith was said to have been ill for some time before his death, dying on 14 December 704 or 705.

From there they turned west along the coast of the Black Sea as far as Sinope, and then headed south towards Tabal, in 705 defeating an Assyrian army in central Anatolia, resulting in the death of Sargon.

According to a report by " Florence of Worcester ", writing long afterwards, at some time before Aldfrith's death in 705 he and Cuthburh " renounced connubial intercourse for the love of God.

The dynasty was interrupted briefly by the Second Zhou Dynasty ( October 8, 690 – March 3, 705 ) when Empress Wu Zetian seized the throne, becoming the only Chinese empress regnant, ruling in her own right.

Wu Zetian ( ( c. 625 – 705 ), also known as Wu Zhao or Wu Chao and as Wu-hou or Wu Hou (), and during the Tang Dynasty as Tian Hou ( 天后 ), Dynasty ), and in English translation as Empress Consort Wu, or the deprecated term " Empress Wu " was a Chinese sovereign, who ruled officially under the name of her self-proclaimed " Zhou Dynasty ", from 690 to 705 ; however, she had previous imperial positions, under both Taizong and his son Gaozong, of the Tang Dynasty, in China.

Her tenure as de facto ruler of China ( first through her husband and then through her sons, from 665 to 690 ), was not without precedent, in Chinese history ; however, she broke precedents when she founded her own dynasty in 690, the Zhou ( 周 ) ( interrupting the Tang Dynasty ), ruling personally under the name Sacred and Divine Empress Regnant ( 聖神皇帝 ), and variations thereof, from 690 to 705.

Empress Wu Zetian ( 684 – 705 ) supported the Hua-yen school of Fazang.

There is mention during the Liang Dynasty ( 502 – 557 ) that gimbals were used for hinges of doors and windows, while an artisan once presented a portable warming stove to Empress Wu Zetian ( r. 690 – 705 ) which employed gimbals.

The practice existed as far back as the Tang Dynasty, when Empress Wu Zetian ( 625 – 705 ) sent a pair of pandas to the Japanese emperor.
