Thornbury was once served by a railway line ; it was the terminus of a branch line of the Midland Railway ( later part of the LMS ), from Yate on the Bristol to Gloucester main line, with intermediate stations at Iron Acton and Tytherington.

In 1961, Bristol stopped producing their own engines-and once again, Ken Rudd came to the rescue, suggesting that AC use a 6-cylinder engine from the Ford Zephyr.

A total of 31 mints were employed in this recoinage — Bedford, Bristol, Bury St Edmunds, Canterbury, Carlisle, Chester, Colchester, Durham, Exeter, Gloucester, Hereford, Ilchester, Ipswich, Launceston, Leicester, Lincoln, London, Newcastle, Northampton, Norwich, Oxford, Pembroke, Salisbury, Shrewsbury, Stafford, Thetford, Wallingford, Wilton, Winchester, and York — but once the recoinage was completed only 12 mints were allowed to remain active.

In service The Great Bear was not a significant improvement on existing classes, and had a highly restrictive route availability ; its 20t 9cwt axle load limiting it to the Paddington to Bristol main line, although it was once recorded to have travelled as far west as Newton Abbot.

Over the years, the club have produced players of the highest calibre more than once, including Graham Williams ( West Bromwich Albion ), Barry Horne ( Everton ), Andy Jones ( Charlton Athletic ), Andy Holden ( Oldham Athletic ) and most recently Lee Trundle ( Bristol City ) after seeing his career revitalised in his short spell with Rhyl in 2000 – 01.

In October 1688, when the Glorious Revolution was proceeding, Beaufort once more occupied Bristol with the train-bands of Gloucestershire, and some of his men captured John Lovelace, 3rd Baron Lovelace at Cirencester, and lodged him a prisoner in Gloucester Castle.

Alcester once had a railway station, belonging to the Midland Railway ( later part of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway ), on the Gloucester Loop Line, branching off the Bristol to Birmingham main line at Ashchurch, passing through Evesham, Alcester and Redditch, and rejoining the main line at Barnt Green, near Bromsgrove.

A trow was a flat-bottomed barge, and Llandogo is a village north-west of Bristol, across the Severn Estuary and upstream on the River Wye in South Wales, where trows were once built.

When one of York's councillors, Thomas Young, the MP for Bristol, proposed that York be recognised as heir to the throne, he was sent to the Tower and Parliament was dissolved.

It is named after the River Morda, which, with the River Tanat, is one of the first major tributaries joining the River Severn as it wends its way from its birthplace on Plynlimon, mid-Wales, to the Bristol Channel.
