Chapterhouse: Dune is a science fiction novel by Frank Herbert, last in his series of six Dune novels.

Published in 1985, it is also known variously as Chapterhouse Dune, Chapter House Dune, and Chapter House: Dune, and rose to # 2 on The New York Times Best Seller list.

Chapterhouse Dune ends with a cliffhanger, and Herbert's subsequent death in 1986 left some overarching plotlines of the series unresolved.

The Bene Gesserit are also terraforming the planet Chapterhouse to accommodate the all-important sandworms, whose native planet Dune had been destroyed by the Matres.

Chapterhouse: Dune debuted at # 5 and rose to # 2 on The New York Times Best Seller list.

They drown the worm in a mixture of water and spice, turning it into sandtrout which will turn the secret Bene Gesserit planet Chapterhouse into another Dune.

Paul Atreides is a Mentat duke ( and later emperor ) in Dune, and in Heretics of Dune ( 1984 ) and Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ), Miles Teg is a Mentat bashar ( or general ) and the most formidable military commander in the known universe.

Later, in Chapterhouse Dune, the Duncan ghola speaks to the Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother Bellonda and recalls his past incarnation from the time of Leto II:

At the end of Frank Herbert's sixth and last book in the Dune series, Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ), a ghola of Scytale is seemingly the only Tleilaxu Master left alive.

In Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's Hunters of Dune, the 2006 sequel to Chapterhouse: Dune, Scytale is a prisoner on the no-ship Ithaca, at the mercy of the latest Duncan Idaho ghola and a rebel group of Bene Gesserit.

Fifteen hundred years later in Heretics of Dune ( 1984 ), the Bene Gesserit have regained their power and relocated to a hidden homeworld they call Chapterhouse, and the spice cycle has been renewed on Arrakis, now called Rakis.

In Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ), the Honored Matres begin to destroy all of the Bene Gesserit-controlled planets and enslave the populaces of the other planets they conquer.

In Chapterhouse Dune, the Bene Gesserit have restored their breeding program.

In Chapterhouse Dune, the Bene Gesserit school on Lampadas, under attack by the Honoured Matres, undertakes Extremis Progressiva ; Lucilla escapes with the " Lampadas Horde ", hoping to return to the Bene Gesserit with them.

In Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ) it is revealed that the Tleilaxu Master Scytale possesses a hidden nullentropy capsule containing cells carefully and secretly collected by the Tleilaxu for millennia, including the cells of Paul Atreides, Duke Leto, Jessica, and Gurney.

Fifteen hundred years later in Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ), the Bene Gesserit Bellonda assesses the many Duncans who came before:

The Bene Gesserit become the consumers of Idaho gholas in Heretics of Dune ( 1984 ) and Chapterhouse Dune ( 1985 ).

Taraza is killed ; her successor Darwi Odrade takes the worm to Chapterhouse.

Back on Chapterhouse, Odrade confronts Duncan and forces him to admit that he is a Mentat, proving that he retains the memories of his many ghola lives.

However in Chapterhouse: Dune both Odrade and Murbella comment that these skills are nowhere near as potent as the Bene Gesserit Voice.

At the beginning of Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ), a ghola of Teg is birthed on orders from his daughter, Odrade, who is now Mother Superior of the Bene Gesserit after Taraza's death at the end of Heretics of Dune.

Some flee Chapterhouse, notably Sheeana, who has a vision of her own, and is joined by Duncan.

By the events of Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ), the Bene Tleilax have been all but eradicated by the fierce Honored Matres save for one Master, Scytale ; he is a ghola of the original Scytale of Dune Messiah, somehow having ascended from Face Dancer to Master.

1985's Chapterhouse: Dune finds the Tleilaxu Master Scytale a prisoner of the Bene Gesserit ; one of his secret bargaining chips is a nullentropy capsule containing cells carefully and secretly collected by the Tleilaxu for millennia.

In 1985's Chapterhouse: Dune, the last Tleilaxu Master Scytale is revealed to have a nullentropy capsule embedded in his chest, containing cells from many important past figures, including Hawat.

The Golden Path is the main driving force in the Frank Herbert-written novels Children of Dune ( 1976 ), God Emperor of Dune ( 1981 ), Heretics of Dune ( 1984 ), and Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ), and is brought to its conclusion in the novels which complete the original series, Hunters of Dune ( 2006 ) and Sandworms of Dune ( 2007 ) by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

At the time of Heretics of Dune ( 1984 ) and Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 )— 1500 years after Leto's death — the turmoil is settling into a new pattern ; the balance of power in the Empire rests among the Ixians, the Bene Gesserit, and the Tleilaxu.

" It is ultimately indicated in Chapterhouse Dune that they are fleeing a powerful, " unknown enemy " who had conquered their own massive empire out in the Scattering.

Essentially a prisoner, he is kept in a no-ship grounded on the secret Bene Gesserit planet Chapterhouse.

In Chapterhouse: Dune, by Frank Herbert, there is a species called Futar ; they are a genetically engineered human / feline hybrid trained to kill the Honored Matres.

However, it is soon discovered by the mysterious " old man and old woman ", Daniel and Marty, first mentioned at the end of Chapterhouse Dune, who have unknown designs on the Ithaca and its passengers.

Meanwhile, Murbella is trying to prevent civil war on Chapterhouse, the only known source of melange left in the universe ( other than the sandworms on the no-ship ).

Among the Bene Gesserit, some are willing to accept the merge with the Honored Matres, while others oppose allying with their enemies ; a group of dissenters led by Reverend Mother Sheeana had previously fled Chapterhouse aboard a no-ship upon Murbella's ascension to leadership.

In Chapterhouse: Dune, The Reverend Mother Dortujla describes being approached by a group of Futars and " Handlers " wishing to ally with the Bene Gesserit against the Honored Matres.

Scytale himself by the events of Chapterhouse Dune would be over 5, 000 years old through his serial incarnations.

The first bands to attract the shoegazing label ( Slowdive, Chapterhouse, Ride, Moose, Lush and Pale Saints ) were largely influenced by My Bloody Valentine, and emerged in the wake of their breakthrough in 1988 with the " You Made Me Realise " single and the album Isn't Anything, and the shoegazing label has more recently been applied to My Bloody Valentine themselves.

In 1985's Chapterhouse: Dune, Lucilla notes that " Navigators were forever bathed in the orange gas of melange, their features often fogged by the vapors ," that they possess a " tiny v of a mouth " and " ugly flap of nose " and that " Mouth and nose appeared small on a Navigator's gigantic face with its pulsing temples.

In Hunters of Dune, the 2006 Brian Herbert / Anderson sequel to Chapterhouse Dune, the Navigator Edrik fears his kind's obsolescence when the Spacing Guild itself ( pressured by a shortage of melange ) begins funding the development of superior Ixian navigation technology that would not require Navigators.

Chapterhouse eventually signed to the newly formed Dedicated label, releasing a series of singles, including " Pearl ," which featured guest vocals by Rachel Goswell of Slowdive and reached No. 67 in the UK Singles Chart.

In Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ), the latest Duncan Idaho ghola suggests that Leto had never " suppressed " Ix because " He was fascinated by the idea of human and machine inextricably bound to each other, each testing the limits of the other.

1984's Heretics of Dune, The New York Times # 13 hardcover fiction best seller of that year, was followed in quick succession by Chapterhouse: Dune in 1985.

In Hunters of Dune ( 2006 ), Scytale remains a prisoner on the no-ship ( now named the Ithaca by its passengers ), which has escaped the Bene Gesserit planet Chapterhouse and wanders in deep space.

She appears in Heretics of Dune and Chapterhouse: Dune by Frank Herbert, as well as Hunters of Dune and Sandworms of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.
