As Germany was defeated in World War II, Himmler's dream were never realized although the construction of the Wewelsburg SS fortress was seen as a possible first step.

* Hermann Fegelein SS Reichsfuhrer Heinrich Himmler's Adjutant and Adolf Hitler's brother in law was a great admirer of his birthplace, Ansbach.

Himmler's first leadership position in the SS was that of SS-Gauführer ( district leader ) in Lower Bavaria from 1926.

Applicants were vetted for Nordic qualities — in Himmler's words, " like a nursery gardener trying to reproduce a good old strain which has been adulterated and debased ; we started from the principles of plant selection and then proceeded quite unashamedly to weed out the men whom we did not think we could use for the build-up of the SS.

Historical analysis of the Third Reich has revealed that senior Orpo personnel knew of Himmler's plan and were opposed to it.

The source for Longerich's account appears to be the interrogation of one of Himmler's adjutants, Werner Grothmann, the transcript of which contains references to " Müller.

The public defeat of Himmler's pseudo-scholarly brand of " esoteric Nordicism " resulted in the foundation of Ahnenerbe, which attracted occultists such as Karl Maria Wiligut and was viewed with suspicion by the mainstream Nazi ideologues of Amt Rosenberg.

This was a standing armed military force, which in war was to be subordinate to the Wehrmacht (" Armed Forces "), but remained under Himmler's control in times of peace and under Hitler's personal control regardless.

Himmler's intention, however, was simply to expand his private army by using the SS-TV ( as well as the police, which he also controlled ) as a manpower pool.

Bauer argues that on the basis of Heinrich Himmler's memorandum of May 25, 1940 to Adolf Hitler regarding the " Final Solution of the Jewish Question "— in which Himmler states his rejection of " the Bolshevik method of physical annihilation of a people out of inner conviction as un-German and impossible ," and goes on to recommend the Madagascar Plan as the desired " territorial solution " of the " Jewish Question "— proves that there was no master plan for genocide going back to the days when Hitler wrote Mein Kampf.

And like the critic in Der Spiegel, he singles out for special censure an interview with Die Zeit in which Syberberg claimed that he ' could understand ' the feeling of the SS man on the railway ramp of Auschwitz, who, in Himmler's words, ' made himself hard ' for the sake of fulfilling his mission to the end.

Although the official policy of the Nazi regime was in favour of an independent Slovak state dependent on Germany and was opposed to any annexations of Slovak territory, Heinrich Himmler's SS considered ambitious population policy options concerning the German minority of Slovakia, which numbered circa 130, 000 people.
