Lucas van Leyden ( Leiden, 1494 – 8 August 1533 in Leiden ), also named either Lucas Hugensz or Lucas Jacobsz, was a Dutch engraver and painter, born and mainly active in Leiden.

The first European to explore St. Helena was most likely Spanish explorer Lucas Vázquez de Ayllón around 1520, as part of the Spanish exploration and colonization of the sea islands.

A dog noted as being a Gazelle Hound is featured in a painting of Henry IV, Duke of Saxony, painted in 1514, by Lucas Cranach the Elder.

For instance, in Lucas Cranach the Elder's " Adam and Eve " different scenes of the Biblical story are shown in the same painting: on the front, God is admonishing the couple for their sin ; in the background to the right are shown the earlier scenes of Eve's creation from Adam's rib and of their being tempted to eat the forbidden fruit ; on the left is the later scene of their expulsion from Paradise.

Goya's influence on 19th-century Spanish painting can be seen in various works by Eugenio Lucas and Leonardo Alenza such as Prisoners Condemned by the Inquisition and The Spanking.
