* Twenty-Four Hours in the Life of a Woman, 1927 ( Original title: Vierundzwanzig Stunden aus dem Leben einer Frau ) – novella initially published in the volume Verwirrung der Gefühle: Drei Novellen

After his commentaries ( on Romans, the Gospel of John, the Sermon on the Mount and the Epistle to the Hebrews ) and several volumes of sermons, his best-known books are Stunden christlicher Andacht ( 1839 ; 8th ed., 1870 ), intended to take the place of J H D Zschokke's standard rationalistic work with the same title, and his reply to David Strauss's Life of Jesus ( Glaubwürdigkeit der evangelischen Geschichte, 1837 ).

In 1839 he wrote Eine Uebersicht der Wissenschaften und Künste Welche in Stunden der Liebe Nicht Uebersehen Sind for Saphir's Pester Tageblatt, and in 1846 Manna, a volume of poems, adaptations of Hebrew poetry, which he dedicated to his fiancée, Augusta Auerbach, whom he married in 1848.

Artist Jeff Gabel created an English-language adaptation of " Vierundzwanzig Stunden aus dem Leben einer Frau " in a large-scale comic book format in 2004, titled " 24 Hours in the Life of a Woman.
