The madness that is a side effect of Venom takes hold, and during the ensuing fight with Superman and Batman, Luthor admits he had traded the creature Doomsday to Darkseid in return for weapons during the Our Worlds at War crisis ; in doing so, he inadvertently provides a confession which is captured on video by Batman.

While searching for the energy of the Black Lantern simultaneously dispatching various Doomsday ' clones ' created from the original to distract Earth's heroes by sending them after the other members of the Superman family with the aid of a robotic duplicate of Lois Lane created to give him an honest opinion on his actions, Luthor encountered Brainiac in space while attempting to alter the last of the Black Lantern energy, acting upon an unspoken theory of his.

Batman devises a measure made after Superman recovers from his first battle with Doomsday, that, when the Justice League or any other superhero groups encounter a Doomsday Level Threat, a group of heroes, authority, and military forces will contain it within a proximity after clearing all civilians within it.

If Superman and the rest fall, the Doomsday Protocol will commence by sending it to the Phantom Zone.

During the " Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds " storyline, Brainiac 5 resurrects Conner in the 31st century after arranging for him to spend 1000 years in the Kryptonian regeneration chamber that revived Superman after his battle with Doomsday and introducing into it a hair from Lex Luthor.

This was most obvious in Superman: The Man of Steel # 75, a pastiche of Superman's death in Superman volume 2 # 75, where Mxyzptlk creates a duplicate of Doomsday.

In order to preserve his life, he concocted an elaborate scheme by having an agent of his, a Coluan named Prin Vnok, use a time machine to travel to the End of Time itself and retrieve Doomsday, who had been left there by Superman and Waverider to ensure that he would never be a threat again, and use Doomsday as a new host body.

Superman thwarted Brainiac's plot by driving him out of Doomsday's body with the use of a telepathy-blocking ' psi-blocker ' that he had used in his last battle, forcing Brainiac out of Doomsday and leaving him with no other option but to adopt a recently-designed robotic body, dubbed Brainiac 2. 5, where he would be forever trapped as he could not abandon it.

Supergirl then reveals to Superman that Brainiac shrunk the Kryptonian city of Kandor and placed it in a bottle, that the Brainiac that Superman has been fighting all these years was in fact a swarm of nanomachines sent by the real Brainiac to look for Superman that had possessed Milton Fine, Doomsday, the Brainiac 2. 5 android, and finally Lena Luthor, and that no one has ever seen the actual Brainiac.

* Although Brainiac does not appear in Superman: Doomsday, a statue of his robot head seen in Crisis on Infinite Earths was seen as a trophy in the Fortress of Solitude.

Doomsday is best known as Superman's murderer in the 1992 storyline, " The Death of Superman ".

Five Leaguers, including Superman, combined their energy powers in an attempt to take Doomsday down, but succeeded only in destroying the last of his ancient burial cables, allowing him to use both hands.

By counterattacking, Superman quickly found that his opponent's power was a match for his own, and so he realized that if Doomsday actually reached Metropolis, the resulting battle could conceivably destroy the city and kill millions of innocent people.

Simultaneously, Doomsday developed a strong desire to murder Superman in particular.

In the space of only a few issues of the Superman comic book series, Doomsday battled Superman in a titanic struggle, leading the hero to conclude that the creature would only continue to attack relentlessly and endlessly, with no fear or compassion.

2 ) # 75, wherein both Doomsday and Superman beat each other to death in front of the Daily Planet building in Metropolis.

Although Brainiac 13 was able to work with Brainiac 2. 5-now transferred into the aged body of Lena Luthor-to prepare a defence against Imperiex in the upcoming Imperiex War that would allow Brainiac to absorb Imperiex's power and use it to reshape the universe in his image, Superman was able to destroy Brainiac and Imperiex by sending them through a temporal Boom tube where they were destroyed in the Big Bang.

The story concludes in the next mini-series, Superman: War of the Supermen.

The later eight cartoons in the series dealt more with World War II propaganda stories, such as in Eleventh Hour, which finds Superman going to Japan to commit acts of sabotage in order to reduce the morale of the enemy ; meanwhile, an angered Adolf Hitler had a cameo role at the end of Jungle Drums after Superman foiled another Nazi plot.

Learning from J ' onn that Doomsday wanted to kill Luthor because he blamed Luthor for his ' death ' in the Imperiex War, Superman would soon fight Doomsday again and this time humbly defeat the creature by knocking him out and proving to himself and the world that Doomsday would never be Superman's equal anymore:
