Altruism was central to the teachings of Jesus found in the Gospel, especially in the Sermon on the Mount and the Sermon on the Plain.

According to the Gospel of Matthew, at the death of Jesus tombs were opened, and at his resurrection many saints who had died emerged from their tombs and went into " the holy city ", presumably New Jerusalem.

A similar confusion occurs in Gospel of Mark 2: 26: In reporting Jesus ' words, the evangelist confused Abiathar with Ahimelech, a mistake into which he was led by the constant association of David ‘ s name with Abiathar.

By the time the Gospels of Luke and Matthew were written, Jesus is portrayed as being the Son of God from the time of birth, and finally the Gospel of John portrays him as the pre-existent Word () as existing " in the beginning ".

In the Gospel of John and in Revelation, Jesus is referred to as " the Word of God " (), although the context in Revelation is very different from John.

Ruth figures as one of four females named in the genealogy of Jesus at the beginning of the Gospel of Matthew ( Matthew 1: 1-17 ).

Contrary to the canonical Christian Gospels, and in accordance with the Islamic view of Jesus, this later " Gospel of Barnabas " states that Jesus was not the son of God, but a prophet and messenger.

The opening words in the Gospel of Mark, namely " The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God " also identify Jesus as both Christ and the Son of God.

In the Gospel of John, Jesus referred to himself as the Son of God far more frequently than in the Synoptic Gospels.

In the Gospel narratives that describe the life of Jesus, the first instance of him being called the Son of God appears during his Baptism by John the Baptist.

Jesus ' ministry, sacrificial death, and subsequent resurrection, are often referred to as the Gospel message (" good news ").

Christians call the message of Jesus Christ the Gospel (" good news ") and generally adhere to the Ten Commandments.

Among the teachings of Jesus Christ in the Gospel of Luke and the Gospel of Matthew, the message to his followers that one should " Turn the other cheek " and his example in the story Pericope Adulterae, in which Jesus intervenes in the stoning of an adulteress, are generally accepted as his condemnation of physical retaliation ( though most scholars agree that the latter passage was " certainly not part of the original text of St John's Gospel ") More militant Christians consider Romans 13: 3 – 4 to support the death penalty.

Now, if any part of the Bible is assuredly the very Word of God speaking through His servant, it is John's Gospel.

This belief is grounded in the Gospel of John passage “ You heard me say, ‘ I am going away and I am coming back to you .’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.

On the other hand, they may not preside over Adoration or Benediction, give a speech that is a homily, or read the Gospel during a Mass or serve as instituted acolytes, a ministry which is now reserved for those preparing for ordained service ).

It is said to be that the author of the Gospel of Luke is the same as the author of the Acts of the Apostles.

The question regarding the genre of Acts is complicated by the fact that it was written by the same author as the Gospel of Luke.

Evidence for this is found in the prologue to the Gospel of Luke, wherein the author alludes to his sources by writing, " Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word.

Prayer is a major motif in both the Gospel of Luke and Acts.

After the last anointing, the Gospel Book is opened and placed with the writing down upon the head of the one who was anointed, and the senior priest reads the " Prayer of the Gospel ".

Article 25 of the Thirty-Nine Articles, speaking of the sacraments, says: " Those five commonly called Sacraments, that is to say, Confirmation, Penance, Orders, Matrimony, and extreme Unction, are not to be counted for Sacraments of the Gospel, being such as have grown partly of the corrupt following of the Apostles, partly are states of life allowed in the Scriptures ; but yet have not like nature of Sacraments with Baptism, and the Lord's Supper, for that they have not any visible sign or ceremony ordained of God.

Due to recorded predictions of the destruction of the temple, the Gospel of Mark is believed by many critical scholars to have been composed around or shortly after the fall of Jerusalem due to prophecies assumed to be ex post facto regarding the destruction of the temple, and both traditional and critical scholarly consensus maintains that it was the first written of the four canonical gospels.

Some scholars who maintain the antiquity of the Gospel of Barnabas propose that the text purportedly discovered in 478 should be identified with the Gospel of Barnabas instead ; but this supposition is at variance with an account of Anthemios's gospel book by Severus of Antioch, who reported having examined the manuscript around the year 500, seeking to find whether it supported the piercing of the crucifed Jesus by a spear at Matthew 27: 49 ( it did not ).

In February of 2012, it was reported in Turkish newspapers that another Syriac manuscript of the Gospel of Barnabas had been found in Cyprus in 2000, in an operation conducted by police against smugglers ; and, having been kept in a police repository since then, had been deposited in the Ethnography Museum of Ankara.

Finally, in the Gospel of Luke, as already remarked, the author enumerates the women who reported the tomb visit, writing that, “ It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them ,” which once again places Mary Magdalene at the head of the list.

A narrative in which Mary of Bethany plays a central role ( in at least one of the accounts ) is the anointing of Jesus, an event reported by the Synoptic Gospels and the Gospel of John in which a woman pours the entire contents of an alabastron of very expensive perfume over the head or feet of Jesus.

Origen is reported by Eusebius to have castrated himself based on his reading of the Gospel of Matthew and other passages in Matthew and Mark that appear to endorse voluntary amputation to avoid sin, although there is some doubt concerning this story.

The town is cited in the Gospel of Luke where it was reported to have been the home of the apostles Simon Peter, Andrew, James and John, as well as the tax collector Matthew.

Among the very mixed bag of works classified as gnostic was a series of writings which could be associated with Valentinus, particularly the Coptic text called the Gospel of Truth which bears the same title reported by Irenaeus as belonging to a text by Valentinus.

In England, Bishop Richard Harries of the Diocese of Oxford reported that a Gospel singer's rendition of " Amazing Grace " was shouted down by cries of " Kill the bitch!

In John's Gospel 7: 23 Jesus is reported as giving this response to those who criticized him for healing on the Sabbath:

* A similar miracle to the miracle of draught of fishes — also called the catch of 153 fish, to distinguish it from the account in Luke — is reported in the Gospel of John but takes place after the Resurrection of Jesus.

In the Gospel of Mark, after passing through Sidon Jesus enters the region of the Decapolis, a group of ten cities south east of Galilee, where the Healing the deaf mute miracle is reported in Mark 7: 31-37, where after the healing, the disciples say: " He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.

In 2005, The Radio Book, a broadcast yearbook published by M Street Publications, reported 285 radio stations in the USA with a primary format designation as " Southern Gospel ," including 175 AM stations and 110 FM stations.

A few of Mary's sayings, also recorded in the Gospel, particularly the Magnificat ( the words Mary is reported to have said to describe the experience of being pregnant with Jesus ), disclose new features in Marian psychology.

The adoration of the shepherds is based on the account in the Luke 2, not reported by any other Canonical Gospel, which states that an angel appeared to a group of shepherds, saying that Christ had been born in Bethlehem, followed by a crowd of angels saying Glory to God in the highest, peace on earth to men of good will.

She was reported to have " multiplied loaves ", creating many from a few on numerous occasions, recalling the Gospel miracle of the loaves and fishes.
