Joan of England, ( 22 July 1210 – 4 March 1238 ), was the eldest legitimate daughter and third child of John of England and Isabella of Angoulême.

Her half-aunt, the future Queen Isabella I of Castile, was due to inherit the crown, but Afonso V was keen to interfere with the succession in Castile.

Afonso was first married to his cousin Isabella of Coimbra in 1447.

Alfonso was the son of Queen Isabella II of Spain, and allegedly, of her husband and King Consort, Francis, Duke of Cádiz.

He was the father of three future rulers of Jerusalem, Sibylla, Baldwin IV, and Isabella I.

Maria Comnena had borne Amalric two daughters: Isabella, who would eventually marry four husbands in turn and succeed as queen, was born in 1172 ; and a stillborn child some time later.

His second wife was Queen Isabella of Jerusalem, married January 1198 in Acre.

She was the youngest surviving child of King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Isabella I of Castile.

At an early age, Catherine was considered a suitable wife for Arthur, Prince of Wales, the eldest son of Henry VII of England and heir to the throne, due to the English ancestry she inherited from her mother Queen Isabella I of Castile.

Cesare Borgia had wanted to take over Mantua while Isabella d ' Este was ruling.

Cesare was also father to at least 11 illegitimate children, among them Girolamo Borgia, who married Isabella Contessa di Carpi, and Lucrezia Borgia, who, after Cesare's death, was moved to Ferrara to the court of her aunt, Lucrezia Borgia.

On 8 February 1813 the British ship Isabella, a ship of 193 tons and a crew of fourteen, was wrecked off the coast of Eagle Island ( now known as Speedwell Island ).

Both Barnard and the survivors from the Isabella had harboured concern the other party was Spanish and were relieved to discover their respective nationalities.

In 1852, the free trade zone was extended by Isabella II to the Canary Islands.

Some older composers in Naples, notably Zingarelli and Paisiello, were inclined to intrigue against the success of the youthful composer, but all hostility was rendered futile by the enthusiasm that greeted the court performance of his Elisabetta, regina d ' Inghilterra, in which Isabella Colbran, who subsequently became the composer's wife, took a leading part.

In 1868, the Spanish queen Isabella II was expelled by a revolution, leaving that country's throne vacant.

Pursuant to an agreement signed by Isabella and Ferdinand on January 15, 1474, Isabella held more authority over the newly unified Spain than her husband, although their rule was shared.

Isabella was only three years old at the time so her mother, Maria Cristina of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, was named regent until her daughter came of age.

Isabella II of Spain took a more active role in government after coming of age, but she was immensely unpopular throughout her reign ( 1833 – 1868 ).

This was not enough to satisfy Isabella, already in her mid-60s, so she returned to political life and ruled Solarolo, in Romagna until her death on 13 February 1539.

Unfortunately, Isabella was already engaged to Hugh de Lusignan, an important member of a key Poitou noble family and brother of Raoul de Lusignan, the Count of Eu, who possessed lands along the sensitive eastern Normandy border.

Conrad, who was now the nearest kinsman to Baldwin V in the male line, and had already proved himself a capable military leader, then married Isabella, but Guy refused to concede the crown.

When Isabella first arrived in England following her marriage, her husband was already in the midst of a relationship with Piers Gaveston, an " arrogant, ostentatious " soldier, with a " reckless and headstrong " personality that clearly appealed to Edward.

Victorian writers suggested that, given later events, Isabella might have helped Mortimer escape and some historians continue to argue that their relationship had already begun at this point, although most believe that there is no hard evidence for their having had a substantial relationship before meeting in Paris.

Isabella and Mortimer had already begun a trend that continued over the next few years, in starting to accumulate huge wealth.

With her lands restored to her, Isabella was already exceptionally rich, but she began to accumulate yet more.

Isabella became Countess of Angoulême in her own right on 16 June 1202, by which time she was already queen of England.

At the time of her marriage to John, the 12-year-old Isabella was already renowned for her beauty and has sometimes been called the Helen of the Middle Ages by historians.

An acrimonious sitting of parliament in March 1425 precipitated the arrest of Murdoch, Isabella, his wife, and his son Alexander — of Albany's other sons Walter was already in prison and James, his youngest, also known as James the Fat, escaped into the Lennox.

The king's conduct, however, drew him to the side of the earl, and he had already joined Edward's enemies when, in October 1321, his wife, Margaret de Clare refused to admit Queen Isabella to her husband's castle at Leeds in Kent.

The monastery, which had already suffered damage during the First Carlist War, was closed down due to the Ecclesiastical Confiscations of Mendizábal in 1835 during Isabella II of Spain's rule.

October 1510 is also the date of a letter by Isabella d ' Este to a Venetian friend ; asking him to buy a painting by Giorgione ; in the letter she is aware he is already dead.

This suggests that he was already aiming to advance the claim of Isabella ( Balian of Ibelin's stepdaughter ) and challenge Sibylla.

Before Columbus even reached Isabella I of Castile, John II had already sent a letter to them threatening to send a fleet to claim it for Portugal.

He was succeeded by Ferdinand, his son by his second marriage, who was already married to Isabella I of Castile.

His descendants would be the lords of Wemmel until the end of the 12th century, when Isabella van Wembelne married Aernout II of Kraainem, and Wemmel became part of the already considerable possessions of Kraainem.

His daughter by Agnes, Sibylla, was already of age, the mother of a son, and was clearly in a strong position to succeed her brother, but Maria's daughter Isabella had the support of her stepfather's family, the Ibelins.

She died in Lisbon, having survived her aunt Isabella I. Joanna's own claim to the throne passed to her cousin, Queen Isabella I's daughter Joanna, who was already monarch of Castile.

At the time of the wedding, Isabella was already visibly pregnant with Maria.

Isabella, even though already slightly old to be a first time bride at the age of 18, was apparently not particularly disappointed.
