Disallowed return to France for burial, for having been a regicide of King Louis XVI, the body of the painter Jacques-Louis David was buried at Brussels Cemetery, while his heart was buried at Père Lachaise Cemetery, Paris.

Jacques-Louis David was, in his time, regarded as the leading painter in France, and arguably all of Western Europe ; many of the painters honored by the restored Bourbons following the French Revolution had been David's pupils.

Following World War II, Jacques-Louis David was increasingly regarded as a symbol of French national pride and identity, as well as a vital force in the development of European and French art in the modern era.

Jacques-Louis Soret ( 30 June 1827 – 13 May 1890 ) was a Swiss chemist who in 1878, along with Marc Delafontaine, first observed holmium spectroscopically.

Thus the ceremony held at the site of the demolished Bastille, organized by the foremost artistic director of the Revolution, Jacques-Louis David, in August 1793 to mark the inauguration of the new republican constitution, an event coming shortly after the final abolition of all forms of feudal privilege, featured a cantata based on Rousseau's democratic pantheistic deism as expounded in the celebrated " Profession de foi d ' un vicaire savoyard " in Book Four of Émile.

Having been awarded first prize in drawing by the Academy, in August 1797 he traveled to Paris to study with Jacques-Louis David, France's — and Europe's — leading painter during the revolutionary period, in whose studio he remained for four years.

His prose " Avis au peuple Français " ( 24 August 1790 ) was followed by the rhetorical " Jeu de paume ", a somewhat declamatory moral ode addressed to the painter Jacques-Louis David.
