Due to its original usage in scattered isolated regions where communication is limited to the local area, the Hakka language has developed numerous variants or dialects, spoken in Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Sichuan, Hunan, and Guizhou provinces, including Hainan island, Singapore and Taiwan.

As a result Jiangxi has been strategically important throughout much of China's history.

There has been little change to the borders of Jiangxi since.

Jiangxi Zong Technology Co. Ltd., which was established in 1998, currently, it has the world's largest breeding stock of peacocks ( about ten thousand peacocks ) and is known as the " Peacock King " in China.

Its encirclement by mountains has allowed the lands of Jiangxi to develop as a separate geographic region and an independent cultural entity.

The short name for Jiangxi is 赣 ( pinyin: Gàn ; Gan: Gōm ), for the Gan River which runs across from the south to the north and flows into the Yangtze River.
