The outstanding example was in Garibaldi And The Thousand, where he made use of unpublished papers of Lord John Russell and English consular materials to reveal the motives which led the British government to permit Garibaldi to cross the Straits of Messina.

Lord John Russell, the Whig leader who had succeeded Peel as Prime Minister and like Rothschild a member for the City of London, introduced a Jewish Disabilities Bill to amend the oath and permit Jews to enter Parliament.

In 1841, he left Parliament and didn't return to politics until 1852 ; this time, having differed from the policy of Lord John Russell over the Corn Laws, he stood for Hertfordshire as a Conservative.

While the Whigs were still part of the Opposition under the minority government of the Earl of Derby, John Russell had said, in January 1852, that he intended to introduce a new Reform bill into the House of Commons which would equalize the populations of the districts from which members of Parliament were elected.

Thus on 28 December 1852, the Earl of Aberdeen appointed Palmerston as Home Secretary and appointed John Russell as Foreign Minister.

However, he was following the pressure that was being exerted on him from some members of his cabinet, including Palmerston, who in this rare instance was actually being supported by John Russell, both of whom were in favor of a more aggressive policy against perceived Russian expansion.

The second of the so-called J-missions, the mission was crewed by Commander John Young, Lunar Module Pilot Charles Duke and Command Module Pilot Ken Mattingly.

John Young and Charles Duke spent 71 hours — just under three days — on the lunar surface, during which they conducted three extra-vehicular activities, or moonwalks, totaling 20 hours and 14 minutes.

John Young, a captain in the United States Navy, had flown on three spaceflights prior to Apollo 16: Gemini 3, Gemini 10 and Apollo 10, which orbited the Moon.

During the second half of the day, John Young and Charlie Duke again entered the Lunar Module to power it up and check its systems, as well as perform housekeeping tasks in preparation for lunar landing.

After the pair donned and pressurized their spacesuits and depressurized the Lunar Module cabin, John Young climbed out onto the " porch " of the LM, a small platform above the ladder.
