The Prophet Joseph Smith taught that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost are three separate and distinct entities, with the Father and the Son possessing physical bodies of flesh and bone but the Holy Ghost existing only as a spirit, enabling it to dwell within us.

Eventually these were restored to the prophet Joseph Smith and various others in a series of divine conferrals and ordinations by angelic men who had held this authority during their lifetimes ( see this partial list of restoration events ).

As it relates to apostolic succession, the apostles Peter, James, and John allegedly appeared to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdry sometime in 1829 and conferred upon them the Melchizedek Priesthood and with it " the keys of the kingdom, and of the dispensation of the fulness of times ".

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints traces its current dispensation beginnings to Joseph Smith, Jr. on April 6, 1830 in Western New York.

On June 27, 1844, Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum were murdered by a mob in Carthage, Illinois, while being held on charges of treason.

To prevent war, Joseph Smith had predicted that the church would go to the West and be established in the tops of Rocky Mountains.

The midrashic book of Jasher argues that prior to revealing his identity, Joseph asked Benjamin to find his missing brother ( i. e. Joseph ) via astrology, using an astrolabe-like tool ; it continues by stating that Benjamin divined that the man on the throne was Joseph, so Joseph identified himself to Benjamin ( but not the other brothers ), and revealed his scheme ( as in the Torah ) to test how fraternal the other brothers were.

In the narrative, just prior to this test, when Joseph had first met all of his brothers ( but not identified himself to them ), he had held a feast for them ; the narrative heavily implies that Benjamin was Joseph's favorite brother, since he is overcome with tears when he first meets Benjamin in particular, and he gives Benjamin five times as much food as he apportions to the others.

Anderson, Stephen Williams and David Pratt.

Mill Creek was originally settled by Mary Fielding Smith ( widow of Hyrum Smith ) and her children, including Joseph F. Smith, in 1848.

However since Taylor was a member of the Quorum of the Twelve before the Mormons even arrived in Utah, and was the wounded survivor of the mob attack that killed Joseph and Hyrum Smith, and served at various times as speaker of the Utah Territorial Legislature, naming the town after Taylor at any point from 1847 on is quite believable.

Bennett was called to account by Joseph and Hyrum Smith, and was excommunicated from the church.

In 1844, Taylor was with church founder Joseph Smith, Jr., his brother Hyrum Smith, and fellow LDS leader Willard Richards in the Carthage, Illinois jail when the Smiths were killed by a mob.

At the request of Hyrum Smith ( Joseph Smith's brother ), he twice sang the song " A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief " in Carthage Jail just before the Smiths were killed.

The " prophets " were Joseph and Hyrum Smith, and " this nation " was the United States.

In early June 1831, Joseph Smith was ordained to the " high priesthood ", along with twenty-two other men ( including prominent figures in the Latter Day Saint movement such as Hyrum Smith, Parley P. Pratt, and Martin Harris ).

The first group no longer emphasizes missionary work ( unlike the LDS and many other Mormon sects ), as they tend to believe that after three murdered prophets ( Joseph Smith, Hyrum Smith and James Strang ) God closed His dispensation to the " gentiles " of the West.

Shortly after his baptism, Woodruff accompanied Joseph Smith, Jr., and his brother Hyrum on a journey from Kirtland, Ohio, to the Missouri as a member of Zion's Camp.

While he was there, a mob of about 200 armed men stormed Carthage Jail in the late afternoon of June 27, 1844, and both Joseph and his brother Hyrum were killed.

Before Joseph, Sr. died on September 14, 1840, he ordained his eldest living son Hyrum Smith to succeed him as Patriarch to the Church.

The publication was the first to include such significant Latter Day Saint documents as The Wentworth Letter, a construction of the King Follett Discourse, the Book of Abraham ( which was later canonized in 1880 by the LDS Church as part of their Pearl of Great Price ), the personal history of Joseph Smith, Jr., and the announcement of the assassination of Joseph and Hyrum Smith.
