While Iran has outlawed homosexuality, Iranian Shi ' a thinkers such as Ayatollah Khomeini have allowed for transsexuals to change their sex so that they can enter heterosexual relationships.

As a result of the public backlash it received from the United States for naming the Ayatollah Khomeini Man of the Year in 1979, Time has shied away from using figures that are controversial in the United States.

Recently, this town has become famous because it is the birthplace of the leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ruhollah Khomeini.

The journalist Robert Dreyfuss in his book Hostage to Khomeini described how the Muslim Student Association is just a front organization for the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist organization. He also describes how Ibrahim Yazdi, the founder of the Iranian branch of the Muslim Student Association became one of the key supporters of Ayatollah Khomeini and served in the early government of the Islamic republic. Robert Dreyfuss discusses how the Muslim Student Association has funnelled money to various Islamic terrorist organizations.

Unlike Khomeini in Iran, bin Laden has six focuses foreign policy goals: ( 1 ) end U. S. aid to Israel ; ( 2 ) U. S. withdrawal from Arabian peninsula ; ( 3 ) end of U. S. involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan ; ( 4 ) end of U. S. support for Muslim oppression by China, Russia, India, etc.

Abdollah Nouri has been called a " trusted lieutenant " of Ayatollah Khomeini who was " the religious guide to the Revolutionary Guards early in the revolution.

An example of takfir that has featured prominently in Western media is the case of Salman Rushdie, who was forced into hiding after Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa officially declaring him to be a kafir who should be executed for his book The Satanic Verses, which is perceived to contain passages that drawn into question the basis of Islam.

The Joker himself, meanwhile, has met none other than the Ayatollah Khomeini, who offers him a position in the Iranian government.

In the early 1960s, Ayatollah Khomeini had issued a ruling permitting gender reassignment, which has since been reconfirmed by Ayatollah Khamenei.

The phrase was used in connection with the Iranian government of Ayatollah Khomeini in 1987 by Olivier Roy, and from the 1990s onward has been used in discussions of Iran, and occasionally of other governments.

It was the primary airport of Tehran in both international and domestic passenger traffic but has been replaced by Imam Khomeini International Airport ( IKA ) in most of its international flights.

The party has been said to be distinguished by " its strong clerical component, its loyalty to Khomeini, its strong animosity to the liberal political movements, and its tendency to support the revolutionary organizations ," such as the komiteh.

There had also been bitter enmity between Saddam and Khomeini since the 1970s.

Khomeini, having been exiled from Iran in 1964, took up residence in Iraq, at the Shi ' ite holy city of An Najaf.

This may have been a result of the anti-Shah bias in BBC Radio's influential Persian broadcasts into Iran: a BBC report of 23 March 2009 explains that many in Iran saw the broadcaster and the government as one, and interpreted the bias for Khomeini as evidence of weakening British government support for the Shah.

However Time magazine points out those such as Adolf Hitler in 1938, and Joseph Stalin in 1939 and again in 1942, and the Ayatollah Khomeini in 1979 have also been granted the title.

After the revolution culminated with the return of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini from France in February 1979, the embassy had been occupied and staff held hostage briefly.

Revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini — who had been exiled by the Shah for 15 years — heightened rhetoric against the " Great Satan ", the United States, talking of what he called " evidence of American plotting ".

The provisional government had been appointed by Khomeini and so Khomeini was likely to go along with their request to restore order.

The phrase or similar phrases have been used by Muslims such as Ayatollah Khomeini, Sayyid Qutb, Osama bin Laden, the imam Anwar al-Awlaki and the organization Islamophobia Watch.

Some observers believe " what began as an authentic and anti-dictatorial popular revolution based on a broad coalition of all anti-Shah forces was soon transformed into an Islamic fundamentalist power-grab ," that except for his core supporters, the members of the coalition thought Khomeini intended to be more a spiritual guide than a ruler – Khomeini being in his mid-70s, having never held public office, been out of Iran for more than a decade, and having told questioners things like " the religious dignitaries do not want to rule.

Inevitably, the overlapping authority of the Revolutionary Council ( which had the power to pass laws ) and Bazargan's government was a source of conflict, despite the fact that both had been approved by and / or put in place by Khomeini.

In June 1979 the Freedom Movement released its draft constitution for the Islamic Republic that it had been working on since Khomeini was in exile.

Ironically, one of the complaints of the revolution's leader and Khalkhali's superior, the Ayatollah Khomeini against the regime they had overthrown was that the Shah's far more limited number of executions of drug traffickers had been " inhuman.

Farsi was later banned by the order of Ayatollah Khomeini, because he was not born in Iran ( he was claimed to have been born in Afghanistan ), so he was not allowed to run for presidency by law.

In April 2005 the $ 350 million Imam Khomeini International Airport was reopened under the management of a consortium of four local airlines — Mahan Air, Aseman, Caspian Airlines and Kish Air — although no formal contract appeared to have been awarded.

In 1989, after Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's fatwa calling for Salman Rushdie and his publishers to be killed, Mahfouz called Khomeini a terrorist.

Khomeini was a marja (" source of emulation ") in Twelver Shi ' a Islam, author of more than forty books, but is primarily known for his political activities.

Ruhollah Khomeini was a lecturer at Najaf and Qom seminaries for decades before he was known in the political scene.

On the afternoon of ' Ashura ( 3 June 1963 ), Khomeini delivered a speech at the Feyziyeh madrasah drawing parallels between the infamous tyrant Yazid and the Shah, denouncing the Shah as a " wretched, miserable man ," and warning him that if he did not change his ways the day would come when the people would offer up thanks for his departure from the country.

Khomeini was arrested in November 1964 and held for half a year.

According to Alexandre de Marenches, chief of External Documentation and Counter-Espionnage Service ( now known as the DGSE ), the shah declined that France expel Khomeini for fear that the cleric should move to Syria or Libya.

By the late 1960s, Khomeini was a marja-e taqlid ( model for imitation ) for " hundreds of thousands " of Shia, one of six or so models in the Shia world.

In the meantime, however, Khomeini was careful not to publicize his ideas for clerical rule outside of his Islamic network of opposition to the Shah which he worked to build and strengthen over the next decade.

However this turned out to be an imminent failure and a political catalyst, for Khomeini had access to more media connections and also collaborated with a much larger Iranian community under his support whom he used to his advantage.

After Khomeini gained power, skirmishes between Iraq and revolutionary Iran occurred for ten months over the sovereignty of the disputed Shatt al-Arab waterway, which divides the two countries.

However, this had proven to completely backfire both on Iraq and on the part of the Arab states, for Khomeini was widely perceived as a hero for managing to defend Iran and maintain the war with little foreign support against the heavily backed Iraq and only managed to boost Islamic radicalism not only within the Arab states, but within Iraq itself, creating new tensions between the Sunni Ba ' ath Party and the majority Shiite population.
