In 1860, one census district in Granville County the primary of the three parent counties ( 73 % of the land area of Vance County was taken from Granville County ) of Vance County, was called Kittrell's Depot.

The railroad was built in 1893 along with the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad Depot.

The track was removed from Boston Road ( Rte 3A ) to Bedford Depot, it is still in place from Rte 3A to the North Billerica Station for trains to have access to the railroad repair shops in North Billerica.

The Livingston Depot, built in 1902 after two predecessors, is a restored rail station that today houses a railroad museum from approximately May through September.

The Historical Association operates a small railroad museum in the summers, The Depot, focused on the 1873 narrow gauge railway between Painesville and Warren.

With the coming of the railroad, businesses in nearby Perryville began relocating to be near the McAlester Rail Depot, marking the end of Perryville and the beginning of McAlester.
