Eero Saarinen's Kresge Auditorium ( 1955 ) is a classic example of the Mid-Century modern | post-war architecture

One of the best-known thin-shell concrete structures in America is the Kresge Auditorium ( MIT ), which was designed by Saarinen.

Subsequent commissions included MIT's Kresge Auditorium ( 1954 ), Tanglewood's Koussevitzky Music Shed ( 1959 ), Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall ( 1962 ), the Cultural Center of the Philippines ( 1969 ) and Baltimore's Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall ( 1978 ).

After 1968 the company spent the next 7 years looking for a stable performing venue and lived a nomadic existence, performing at various venues including the Shubert Theatre, MIT's Kresge Auditorium, the Cyclorama, and the Tufts University Field House.

This geographic diversity within the camp population reinforces the motto painted over the stage in Kresge Auditorium which states simply, " Dedicated to the Promotion of World Friendship Through the Universal Language of the Arts ".

Kresge Auditorium is an auditorium building for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, located at 48 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Saarinen designed Kresge Auditorium in tandem with his MIT Chapel ; the two buildings are separated by a " green ," referred to by students as the " Kresge Oval.

The first professional recording at the Kresge Auditorium was a performance by soloist James Stagliano on the French horn, playing Mozart's 4 Concerti for Horn, accompanied by the Zimbler Sinfonietta.

On the original Lehrer Records release of Revisited, tracks 1 – 6 ( side 1 ) were recorded live on November 23 & 24, 1959, in Kresge Auditorium at MIT in Cambridge, MA, while tracks 7 – 13 ( side 2 ) were recorded live at two concerts during Lehrer's tour of Australia in spring 1960 ( March 21 in Melbourne and May 4 in Sydney ).

It is located on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, next to Kresge Auditorium and Kresge Oval, which Saarinen also designed, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Then in 2000 Nick 13 asked former AFI ( band ) bassist Geoff Kresge, one of his former bandmates from Influence 13, to join Tiger Army.

Located apart from the other athletic facilities is Kresge Gymansium.

Distinguished graduates from the early days of Kresge College include Doug Foster, who went on to become editor of Mother Jones magazine, and Richard Bandler, who co-founded Neuro-Linguistic Programming ( NLP ) with John Grinder.

Kresge was originally endowed by the Kresge family trust, whose fortune was derived from K-Mart ; one of the early ( and very ironic ) nicknames of Kresge was ' K-Mart ' college ; considering its traditionally counter-cultural orientation, it was about as far from the middle American K-Mart image as could be imagined.

The architects originally wanted to put a neon sign from an S. S. Kresge department store at the entrance to the college, but this idea met too much resistance.

This initiative to extend credit to all customers was made in 1969, during a prosperous period in US history, when Grant was expanding into new areas of the US and hopeful of pulling customers from rival Kresge and other department-store companies.

GM played a key role in the transformation of the east riverfront with a donation of $ 135 million to the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy for the development of a world class riverfront promenade planned at $ 559 million, which included $ 50 million from the Kresge foundation.

Kresge moved to New York where he played with street punk band Blanks 77.

After several tours in support of the album Very Proud of Ya, Kresge decided to leave the group.

Geoff Kresge returned to Tiger Army in early 2008 and joined Nick 13 and James Meza on tours of the U. S., Canada, Australia, Japan and Europe.

This was the same year as its competitors opened similar retail chains that sold merchandise at a discount: the S. S. Kresge Company opened Kmart, Dayton's opened Target, and Sam Walton opened his first Wal-Mart store.
