LaVey and Anger's
Anger's fame on the underground circuit allowed him to increasingly associate with other celebrities, including Anton LaVey, the founder of the Church of Satan who named Anger as godfather to Zeena Schreck ( LaVey's daughter ).
LaVey also made an appearance in one of Anger's films, Invocation to My Demon Brother ( 1969 ) as a devilish priest, while Anger wrote forewords to two of LaVey's books, The Devil's Notebook ( 1992 ) and Satan Speaks!

LaVey and film
Anger then decided to use much of the footage created for Lucifer Rising in a new film of his, Invocation of My Demon Brother, which starred Beausoleil, LaVey, Jagger and Richards, as well as Anger himself, and the music for which had been composed by Jagger.
According to Schreck, Mayer proposed that LaVey author a Satanic bible to draw from the popularity of 1968 horror film Rosemary's Baby, which had caused a recent rise in public interest in both Satanism and the occult.

Getting to know several notable countercultural figures of the time, including Tennessee Williams, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page, Marianne Faithfull and Anton LaVey, Anger involved them in his subsequent Thelemite-themed works, Invocation of My Demon Brother ( 1969 ) and Lucifer Rising ( 1972 ).

The Church of Satan was established at the Black House in San Francisco, California, on Walpurgisnacht, April 30, 1966, by Anton Szandor LaVey, who was the Church's High Priest until his death in 1997.

The Latin of Melech and LaVey is based on the Roman Catholic Latin Missal, reworded so as to give it a Satanic meaning ( e. g. the Roman Mass starts " In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti, introibo ad altare Dei ", while LaVey's version, printed in the Satanic Rituals, starts " In nomine magni dei nostri Satanas, introibo ad altare Domini Inferi ").
In the introduction to the 2005 – present edition, High Priest Peter H. Gilmore describes LaVey as having compiled The Satanic Bible on his own from monographs he had written about the Church of Satan and its rituals.
He too provides a brief background on LaVey, explaining how LaVey brought some of the knowledge he had acquired while working with the circus to his religion.
It included some of the same content as the 1969 version, with an expanded biography of LaVey and more information on the various conflicts between other religions and LaVeyan Satanism.
He then goes on to provide a detailed biography of LaVey and addresses allegations that LaVey falsified much of the story of his own past.
Along with the rumors regarding Satanic views on sex, LaVey also addresses those about animal and human sacrifice.
In The Book of Lucifer, LaVey outlines LaVeyan Satanism's views on death.
LaVey goes on to list the key components to successful ritual: desire, timing, imagery, direction, and " The Balance Factor " ( awareness of one's own limitations ).
LaVey describes Satanism as " a religion based on the universal traits of man ," and humans are described throughout as inherently carnal and animalistic.
He argues that many erroneously categorize the content of The Satanic Bible as evil and depraved from the minimalist, dark cover design ( composed of a purple Sigil of Baphomet and white text on the front, and a photo of LaVey superimposed over the Sigil of Baphomet on the back ), the verbose, overblown style of the text, and the presence of the word " Satan " in the title.

In the 1960s Anton LaVey formed a group called the Order of the Trapezoid, which later became the governing body of the Church of Satan.
LaVey adapted Dee's Calls to include Satanic references which were not in the originals.
LaVey begins The Book of Belial by defining magic as " The change in situations or events in accordance with one's will, which would, using normally accepted methods, be unchangeable.
The rest of The Book of Leviathan is composed of the Enochian Keys, which LaVey adapted from Dee's original work.
The last major commercial endeavor aimed at the Splatterpunk audience was 1995's " Splatterpunks II: Over the Edge ," an anthology of short stories which also included essays on horror cinema and an interview with Anton LaVey.
It then provides reasons for ( and the context into which ) Anton LaVey founded the Church of Satan ( CoS ) and the religion of Satanism.
Another, possibly better, source might be the name Shemhamphorasch, one of the alternate Hebrew names of God, which has over the centuries acquired occult significance and was adopted by Anton LaVey for rituals of his Church of Satan.
Many of the rituals detailed in the book were previously only known to members of the priesthood in the Church of Satan, such as the wedding rite which was performed by founder Anton LaVey, along with the details for a Satanic funeral, assumed to be a variation on one such which was performed on him.

The zine gradually became much more slick-looking and featured interviews with such mainstream acts as Tom Jones, " Weird Al " Yankovic and Duran Duran alongside underground notables like William S. Burroughs, Johnny Rotten and Anton LaVey.

One of the most important concepts LaVey introduced in The Satanic Witch was the LaVey Synthesizer Clock, an improved form of somatotyping incorporating a fourth basic type to the three already in common use ( by addition of the " pure feminine " type, opposite to the " pure masculine " or mesomorphic type ).

In the first year of its foundation, Anton LaVey and the Church of Satan publicly performed a Satanic marriage of Judith Case and journalist John Raymond.
Gilmore lists a number of people who influenced LaVey's writings: Ayn Rand, Friedrich Nietzsche, H. L. Mencken, the members of the carnival with whom LaVey had supposedly worked in his youth, P. T. Barnum, Mark Twain, John Milton, and Lord Byron.

The Church of Satan is an organization dedicated to the acceptance of the carnal self, as articulated in The Satanic Bible, written in 1969 by Anton Szandor LaVey.
According to the Church of Satan historiography, other LaVey associates from this time include noted Science Fiction and Horror writers Anthony Boucher, August Derleth, Robert Barbour Johnson, Reginald Bretnor, Emil Petaja, Stuart Palmer, Clark Ashton Smith, Forrest J. Ackerman, and Fritz Leiber Jr.
In 1975 LaVey phased out the Church's " Grotto " system and eliminated people he thought were using the Church as a substitute for accomplishment in the outside world.
At the same time, LaVey became more selective in granting interviews.
This shift to " closed door " activities resulted in some rumors of the Church ’ s demise, and even rumors of LaVey ’ s death.
Most notably Adam Parfrey's Feral House publishing, the music of Boyd Rice, and the films of Nick Bougas, including his documentary Speak of the Devil: The Canon of Anton LaVey.
The Church of Satan and Anton LaVey were also the subject of numerous magazine and news articles during this time.
On November 7, 1997 Karla LaVey made a press release about continuing the church with fellow high priestess with Blanche Barton.
Other texts, such as The Satanic Bible, also by LaVey, serve the most specifically as a reference for Satanic dogma.
