" Six buildings, built between 1942 and 1965, are National Historic Landmarks, and approximately 60 other buildings sustain the Bartholomew County seat's reputation as a showcase of modern architecture.

The surviving chalet and hotel buildings within the park are now designated as National Historic Landmarks.

The Vassar campus comprises over and more than 100 buildings, including four National Historic Landmarks, ranging in style from Collegiate Gothic to International, designed over the course of the college ’ s history by a range of prominent architects, including James Renwick Jr., Eero Saarinen, Marcel Breuer, and Cesar Pelli.

In the spring of 2011 the Landmarks Preservation Commission proposed two East Village Historic Districts, one small district covering the block of East 10th Street known as Tompkins Square North and one larger district focused around lower Second Avenue that would encompass 15 blocks and 330 buildings.

Although New York had a newly created Landmarks Preservation Commission by the time demolition commenced in 1967, and the Singer Building was considered to be one of the most iconic buildings in the city, it did not receive landmark designation that would have prevented demolition.

Many of these buildings were remodeled according to regulations dictated by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission as the gentrification of the eastern and southern borders of this designated Historic District took hold.

The buildings are both part of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission's Greenwich Village Historic District, designated in 1969, and the Inn was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2000.

The buildings were restored in the 1990s by the Housing Authority, in consultation with the Landmarks Preservation Commission.

In 2007 three buildings of the Domino Sugar Refinery were also designated New York City Landmarks.

Both modern and historic buildings and complexes, many of the latter declared National Historic Landmarks on the National Register of Historic Places, are located in the area,.

In addition, several buildings have been designated as landmarks by Seattle's Landmarks Preservation Board: Columbia, Douglass-Truth, Fremont, Green Lake, Lake City, Magnolia, North East, Queen Anne, University, and West Seattle.

Some of these buildings are listed under the Council's Landmarks heritage scheme, along with the Town Hall.

It was one of the first buildings to be recognized as such by the newly-formed Landmarks Preservation Commission of New York City, thanks to Joseph Papp ’ s perseverance.
