He is the son of John Lennon and Lennon's first wife, Cynthia Powell.

Ono released her first solo album, Yoko Ono / Plastic Ono Band in 1970, as a companion piece to Lennon's better-known John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band.

Although the song was written by Lennon during his tenure with the Beatles it was both written and recorded without the help of the band and released as Lennon's first independent single under the " Plastic Ono Band " moniker.

Ono's relationship with John Lennon's first wife, Cynthia Lennon remains strained.

The sessions for The Beatles marked the first appearance in the studio of Lennon's new girlfriend and artistic partner, Yoko Ono, who would thereafter be a more or less constant presence at all Beatles sessions.

A number of songs were recorded during these sessions but were not issued on The Beatles, including Harrison's " Not Guilty " ( which he re-recorded for his eponymous 1979 album, George Harrison ), Lennon's " What's the New Mary Jane ", and McCartney's " Jubilee " ( later retitled " Junk " and released on his first solo LP ).

Others included " Mean Mr. Mustard " and " Polythene Pam " ( both of which would be used for the medley on Abbey Road ); " Child of Nature " ( recorded with drastically different lyrics as " Jealous Guy " for Lennon's Imagine ); " Etcetera " ( a McCartney composition ); " The Long and Winding Road " ( completed in 1969 for the Let It Be LP ); " Something " ( which ended up on Abbey Road ); and " Sour Milk Sea " ( which Harrison gave to friend and Apple artist Jackie Lomax for his first LP, Is This What You Want ).

In 1996, three previously unreleased versions of the song were included on the Anthology 2 album: Lennon's original home demo, an altered version of the first studio take, and the complete take seven, of which only the first minute was heard in the master version.

The song has the distinction of being the first Beatles recording to be referenced by the group themselves: the second verse of Lennon's " I Am the Walrus ", released on Magical Mystery Tour at the end of 1967, contains the lyric " see how they fly, like Lucy in the sky, see how they run ...".

Many of Lennon's demos that appeared on bootlegs were first heard on the radio series The Lost Lennon Tapes.

" Vocalist Liam Gallagher ( whose vocal style imitates aspects of John Lennon's ) named his first son Lennon.

It also included " Let Me Roll It ", which was seen as an affectionate impersonation of John Lennon's vocal style, and " No Words ", the first song released by Wings that was co-written by Laine ( all Wings releases to this time were either Paul and Linda compositions or cover versions ).

There has been various speculation as to the subject of Lennon's affair: his friend Pete Shotton suggested a journalist of their acquaintance, possibly Maureen Cleave ( though Cleave has said that in all her encounters with Lennon there was " no pass "), while writer Philip Norman claimed that the woman was model Sonny Drane, the first wife of Beatles photographer Robert Freeman.

The New York City Police Department officers who first responded to the shooting, recognizing that Lennon's wounds were severe, decided to transport him in their police car to Roosevelt Hospital.

The album peaked for five consecutive weeks at US # 2 in January 1981 ( behind Yoko Ono's and John Lennon's Double Fantasy ) and eventually sold over five million copies, and a month later, Benatar won her first Grammy Award for " Best Female Rock Vocal Performance " of 1980.

The show was also fortunate to persuade Ringo Starr to give one of the first post-Beatles interviews in an extended article on his work with Marc Bolan and T. Rex, filmed at his then ( and previously John Lennon's ) house, Tittenhurst Park.

The December release of John Lennon's album Double Fantasy seems an impressive feat for a new label, but at the time Lennon stated that Geffen was the only one with enough confidence in him to agree to a deal without hearing the record first.

She was an invited guest at The Concert for George in 2002, and remains close to Cynthia Lennon, her husband Noel Charles, and Lennon's first son, Julian Lennon.

Ono began telephoning and calling at Lennon's home, and when his wife asked for an explanation, he explained that Ono was only trying to obtain money for her " avant-garde bullshit ".

" When Lennon's wife returned home, she found Ono wearing her bathrobe and drinking tea with Lennon who simply said, " Oh, hi.

The piano can be seen in the 1971 film footage that features John Lennon performing Imagine for his wife Yoko Ono at his home in England and in Sean Lennon's much debated photo from 2010 showing pop musician Lady Gaga playing the piano.

Another song featured on the album was " 20 Years in the Dakota ", which discussed Yoko Ono's struggles as John Lennon's wife, a position which Love herself has been frequently compared to, due to the perception that Ono drew Lennon away from The Beatles and that Love drew Cobain away from Nirvana.

An alternate view is that Geffen was the only label head to pay attention to Lennon's wife and partner Yoko Ono.

Half of the book covers the personality of Lennon's wife, Yoko Ono, who is portrayed in a very bad light ; Goldman alleges that, among other things, she hated Paul McCartney, neglected her children and brainwashed and pulled Lennon away from everyone who ever meant something to him.

Lennon was indeed a heavy drug user, as has now been acknowledged by most people who knew the musician well, including Ono and Lennon's first wife, Cynthia Lennon.

Goldman also goes into great detail about Ono's treatment of Lennon's first wife Cynthia, and Ono's unconventional behavior and personality.

Lennon's first wife Cynthia Lennon denounced the book, stating " Every single person was annihilated.

Shotton regularly visited Lennon's house ( Kenwood ) on weekends to keep Lennon company, leaving his wife and young son at home, or to escort Cynthia Lennon for a night out when her husband was busy with band matters or songwriting.

" Ono became pregnant in 1968 and miscarried a male child they named John Ono Lennon II on 21 November 1968, a few weeks after Lennon's divorce from Cynthia was granted.

Lennon's marriage with Cynthia Powell was failing, and he was using increasing quantities of drugs, especially the powerful psychedelic LSD, as well as cannabis, which he had smoked during his time in Spain.

Soon afterwards, Paul McCartney drove out to visit Cynthia and her and Lennon's son, Julian.

Cynthia Lennon's memoir claims that the work was carried out by " a firm of barge and caravan designers ".

Goldman further asserted that this turn of events was caused, not only by Lennon's own native laziness and dependence on strong women throughout his life to manage his affairs ( other than his marriage to Cynthia, in which he took a dominant role ), but through the instigation and manipulation of Yoko Ono, who Goldman claimed in the book was jealous of Lennon and saw his fame as competition for her own musical ambitions.

Cynthia Lennon claims that the material for Goldman's depiction of her and Lennon's marriage was taken from her book A Twist of Lennon.

The two albums have almost identical covers: Ono's featured a photo of her leaning on Lennon, and Lennon's had a photo of him leaning on Ono.

In 1995, after the Beatles released Lennon's " Free as a Bird " and " Real Love " with demos provided by Ono, McCartney and his family collaborated with her and Sean Lennon to create the song " Hiroshima Sky is Always Blue ", which commemorates the 50th anniversary of the atomic bombing of that Japanese city.

The album included 11 new recordings, featuring covers of Joni Mitchell's " River ", Gordon Lightfoot's " Song for a Winter's Night ", and John Lennon's " Happy Xmas ( War Is Over )", which she recorded with her outreach children and youth choir, and seasonal favourites: " Christmas Time Is Here ", " O Little Town of Bethlehem ", " Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas ", " Silent Night ", " The First Noel ", and " Greensleeves ( What Child Is This?

In 1992, Lyngstad performed live at the Stockholm Water Festival at the Kings Castle and released the environmental charity single with her cover of Julian Lennon's song " Saltwater ".

The house belonged to Lennon's Aunt Mimi and her husband George Smith.

Pang received an RIAA gold record award for her work on Walls and Bridges and continued her work as production coordinator of Lennon's Rock ' n ' Roll album, where she was credited as " Mother Superior ".

She found success with the singles " Hide and Seek ", " Symptoms of True Love " and her remake of John Lennon's " Imagine ".

Concerning Lennon's supposed bisexuality, Ono herself is found to have said in a 1981 interview that she considered Lennon a " closet fag ," and she further revealed that he liked her because she looked " like a bloke in drag ".

Goldman contends Ono encouraged Lennon's heroin addiction as a way of controlling him and his vast fortune, to her own ends.

Goldman also alleges Lennon's comeback was only allowed, and then orchestrated, by Ono after she realized her own ambitions at stardom without Lennon were futile.

Lennon's widow Yoko Ono threatened to sue for libel, claiming the book made her briefly consider suicide, but never pursued any legal action, later explaining that she wanted to maintain a positive attitude and that her lawyers had advised her a civil action would only draw more attention to the book.
