After a day-long rehearsal, on 16 July 1968 the basic tracks were laid down for Lennon's guitar part and his vocal on the introduction, McCartney's bass, and Starr's drums, along with Lennon's piano and George Martin's harmonium, while all other parts were dubbed in two days later: Lennon's lead vocal, Lennon / McCartney falsetto backing vocals and tambourines, Martin's harmonium introduction, sound effects for tea, and Harrison's guitar, a Gibson Les Paul borrowed from Eric Clapton and soon to be a permanent gift.

The same lecture inspired Lennon's unreleased song " Child of Nature ", the tune of which he later re-used for " Jealous Guy ".
U2 later adopted the Nutopian flag as a part of their live performance of the political songs from their third album, War, an example of this can be seen on the video version of U2's live album Under a Blood Red Sky, during the famous performance of their song " Sunday Bloody Sunday ", which, interestingly, shares the same title as a song from Lennon's album Some Time in New York City.
McCartney would cite this as an early example of Lewis Carroll's influence on Lennon's lyrics — a ploy explored again in later compositions such as " Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds ", " Strawberry Fields Forever " and Lennon's solo " Imagine ".
