It formerly housed the John Lennon Museum, which displayed John Lennon memorabilia and closed in 2010.

Lennon promoted the album with music videos for the two hits made by movie director Sam Peckinpah and producer Martin Lewis.

Lennon played this guitar for The Beatles ' famous 1964 debut on The Ed Sullivan Show ( as well as for their third Sullivan appearance, pre-taped the same day but broadcast two weeks later ).

The two albums have almost identical covers: Ono's featured a photo of her leaning on Lennon, and Lennon's had a photo of him leaning on Ono.

The couple separated in 1973 and the two began living separate lives, Ono pursuing her career in New York and Lennon living in Los Angeles with personal assistant May Pang in a period commonly referred to as his " lost weekend.

When they returned to The Dakota, their home in New York City, Lennon was shot dead by Mark David Chapman, a deranged fan who had been stalking Lennon for two months.

While the group was together, every song written by Lennon or McCartney was credited as Lennon – McCartney regardless of whether the song was a collaboration or written solely by one of the two ( except for those appearing on their first album, Please Please Me, which credited the songs to McCartney – Lennon ).

After Lennon's death, McCartney once again attempted to change the order to " McCartney – Lennon " for songs such as " Yesterday " that were solely or predominantly written by him, but Ono would not allow it, saying she felt this broke an agreement that the two had made while Lennon was still alive.

His work is thought to have been a significant influence on the two books written by John Lennon in 1964 / 5 – John Lennon In His Own Write and A Spaniard in the Works.

" Eight Days a Week " is noteworthy as one of the first examples of the in-studio experimentation that the band would use extensively in the future ; in two recording sessions totalling nearly seven hours on 6 October devoted exclusively to this song, Lennon and McCartney tried one technique after another before settling on the eventual arrangement.

Lennon, McCartney, and Harrison pleaded with Starr to return, and after two weeks he did.

More recently, the song " Revolution 1 ( Take 20 )", a previously unknown track, surfaced in 2009 on a bootleg and is supposed to connect " Revolution 1 " and the avant-garde " Revolution 9 " ( both of which appeared on The Beatles ) in an attempt by Lennon to record one long version of " Revolution " before ultimately splitting the two songs up.

Lennon claimed he wrote the first two lines on separate acid trips.

Lennon said, " You can fix it, George ", giving Martin and Emerick the difficult task of joining the two takes together.

The single topped the US Billboard pop charts for two weeks in January 1975 as well as the Canadian RPM national singles chart for four weeks spanning January and February, eventually overtaken by The Carpenters's version of the Motown hit " Please Mr. Postman ", a song covered, with Lennon singing the lead vocal, on With the Beatles in 1963.

The albums included unreleased performances and outtakes presented in roughly chronological order, along with two new songs based on demo tapes recorded by John Lennon after the group broke up.

According to Lennon, the inspiration for the first two verses was the death of Tara Browne, the 21-year-old heir to the Guinness fortune who had crashed his Lotus Elan on 18 December 1966 in Redcliffe Gardens, Earls Court.

1973 found Nilsson back in California, and when John Lennon moved there during his separation from Yoko Ono, the two musicians rekindled their earlier friendship.

There are also Lennon demos available of songs that would develop into " She Said She Said ", " Strawberry Fields Forever ", " Good Morning Good Morning ", " Across the Universe ", " You Know My Name ( Look Up The Number )", " Don't Let Me Down ", and two songs he would later record after The Beatles, " Oh My Love " and " Cold Turkey ".

In addition to the two songs released, two other Lennon demos ( which have been bootlegged ) became the basis for additional work by the other three Beatles: " Now and Then " and " Grow Old With Me ".

Of the album's fourteen songs, eight were written by Lennon – McCartney ( originally credited " McCartney – Lennon "), early evidence of what Rolling Stone later called " invention of the idea of the self-contained rock band, writing their own hits and playing their own instruments ".

John Lennon complained to EMI Australia at a meeting about the changes, but the cover remained the same until the album's release on compact disc in 1988.

In later years, Lennon stated that the album's title track was a sincere cry for help ; he regretted changing it from a downbeat, piano-driven ballad to an uptempo pop song, which was done only as a result of commercial pressures.

* Tony Palmer, in The Observer, wrote shortly after the album's release: " If there is still any doubt that Lennon and McCartney are the greatest songwriters since Schubert, then ... album The Beatles ... should surely see the last vestiges of cultural snobbery and bourgeois prejudice swept away in a deluge of joyful music making ..."

In commentary for a lawsuit to block the album's release, John Lennon wrote, " the sleeve note, apart from being inaccurate, seems to have been written with a court case in mind.

:* John Lennon was once asked to sum up the 60s in one phrase-his reply, " Be here now ", was used by Gallagher for Oasis ' 1997 album, and for the album's title track.

The album's elaborate jacket featured childhood drawings done by Lennon and a series of interchangeable faces.

The album's front cover photo was taken while Ono was bedridden at Queen Charlotte's with Lennon by her side, while the back cover was a news photo of Lennon and Ono leaving Marylebone Police Station, after their arrest for hashish possession on 18 October 1968.

A number of guest musicians appear, including Róisín Murphy ( one half of the duo Moloko at the time of the album's release ), Del tha Funkee Homosapien, J-Live, Sean Lennon, Miho Hatori ( of Cibo Matto ), Mike D ( of the Beastie Boys ) and Don Novello ( as comic character Father Guido Sarducci ).

The album's front cover is based on that of the 1971 compilation album The Songs Lennon and McCartney Gave Away.

According to Bill Wyman in his book ' Stone Alone: The Story of a Rock ' N ' Roll Band ,' John Lennon said of The Rolling Stones No. 2: " The album's great, but I don't like five-minute numbers.

The album made a greater impact in Europe than in the U. S. The Beatles were among those who took note of its content: John Lennon placed two of the album's promotional bumper stickers on a cabinet in the sunroom where he spent most of his time at his home.

During the same visit to Knole Park, Goldman produced the promotional film for " Penny Lane ", the reverse side of the " Strawberry Fields Forever " single ( during this same stay in Sevenoaks, John Lennon wandered into an antiques gallery and purchased the poster for Pablo Fanque's Circus Royal that would inspire the song " Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite !").

Lennon was inspired to write the song by a 19th century circus poster for Pablo Fanque's Circus Royal, Rochdale, that he purchased in an antique shop on 31 January 1967, while filming the promotional video for " Strawberry Fields Forever " in Sevenoaks, Kent.

During filming of a promotional clip later that year, Lennon told the director that it was the most important lyric of the song.

In 1967, rhythm guitarist Jim Tucker left the band, allegedly after being publicly insulted by John Lennon when the group were in England on a promotional tour.

The bonus tracks for the reissue include " Whatever Gets You Thru The Night " performed live with Elton John, a previously unreleased acoustic version of " Nobody Loves You ( When You're Down And Out )" and a promotional interview with Lennon.

During a January 1967 visit to Knole Park in Sevenoaks to shoot a promotional film for Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane, John Lennon stopped into a Westerham antiques shop and purchased a poster for Pablo Fanque's Circus Royal, which later inspired the song, Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!

Primarily by John Lennon ( credited to Lennon – McCartney ), and finished in the studio by Lennon and McCartney, the song was recorded during the filming of the " Lady Madonna " promotional video, and like " Lady Madonna " is one of the few Beatles ' songs to revolve around a piano riff.

As Lennon and McCartney were known to do at the time, a substitute working lyric, titled " Scrambled Eggs " ( the working opening verse was " Scrambled Eggs / Oh, my baby how I love your legs "), was used for the song until something more suitable was written.

James is mentioned in The Beatles ' song " For You Blue ": while John Lennon plays the slide guitar ( James ' trademark ), George Harrison says, " Elmore James got nothin ' on this, baby.

( Gallagher admitting he ' cried like a baby ' when City won the Premier League title ) He is a friend of former City midfielder Joey Barton, as well as Celtic manager Neil Lennon and Italian striker Alessandro Del Piero, who described Gallagher as Italy's " lucky mascot " during the 2006 FIFA World Cup, and appears in the Oasis video " Lord Don't Slow Me Down ".

Lennon said this double-time section ( with the lyric " My baby don't care ") was one of his " favourite bits " in the song.

He also alleges that Lennon caused the death of an unborn baby he'd conceived with Yoko Ono during 1968, when he kicked the pregnant Ono in the belly during an argument.
