In some ways, Allori is the last of the line of prominent Florentine painters, of generally undiluted Tuscan artistic heritage: Andrea del Sarto worked with Fra Bartolomeo ( as well as Leonardo da Vinci ), Pontormo briefly worked under Andrea, and trained Bronzino, who trained Allori.

Roger Bacon and Leonardo da Vinci were some of the first modern Europeans to study aeronautics.

Another very concrete example describes an aesthetically pleasing human face whose proportions can be described by very few bits of information, drawing inspiration from less detailed 15th century proportion studies by Leonardo da Vinci and Albrecht Dürer.

Although observations of some aerodynamic effects such as wind resistance ( e. g. drag ) were recorded by Aristotle, Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo Galilei, very little effort was made to develop a rigorous quantitative theory of air flow prior to the 17th century.

In 1505, Leonardo da Vinci wrote the Codex on the Flight of Birds, one of the earliest treatises on aerodynamics.

There are groups of drawings by Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo, ( including his only surviving full-scale cartoon ), Dürer ( a collection of 138 drawings is one of the finest in existence ), Peter Paul Rubens, Rembrandt, Claude and Watteau, and largely complete collections of the works of all the great printmakers including Dürer ( 99 engravings, 6 etchings and most of his 346 woodcuts ), Rembrandt and Goya.

Crankshafts were also described by Konrad Kyeser ( d. 1405 ), Leonardo da Vinci ( 1452 – 1519 ) and a Dutch " farmer " by the name Cornelis Corneliszoon van Uitgeest in 1592.

Cesare Borgia briefly employed Leonardo da Vinci as military architect and engineer between 1502 and 1503.

Their contemporary, Leonardo da Vinci ( 1452 – 1519 ) said,

Leonardo drew many studies of the human skeleton and its parts, as well as muscles and sinews.

Leonardo also studied and drew the anatomy of many animals, dissecting cows, birds, monkeys, bears, and frogs, and comparing in his drawings their anatomical structure with that of humans.

Leonardo da Vinci drew sketches of a concept for a ropemaking machine, but it was never built.

It drew a rebuttal from the president of the SDMI, Dr. Leonardo Chiariglione.

Escher drew the octahedral compound of Stars in a beveled wire-frame style that was previously used by Leonardo da Vinci in his illustrations for Luca Pacioli's book, De divina proportione.

One can only imagine how, over a few years, both Leonardo and Bramante – foreigners and equally attracted by the theme of the centralized church – had much to question and discuss .” ( Rowe & Satkowski p14 ) Although Leonardo was never to design or construct a single building he drew numerous sketches in which the concept was explored ( fig ).

In both these Annunciations, Leonardo used a formal arrangement, such as in Fra Angelico's two well-known pictures of the same subject, of the Virgin Mary sitting or kneeling to the right of the picture, approached from the left by an angel in profile with rich flowing garment, raised wings and bearing a lily.

Slavisa Pesci, " an information technologist and amateur scholar ", superimposed Leonardo da Vinci's version of The Last Supper with its mirror image ( with both images of Jesus lined up ) and claimed that the resultant picture has a Templar knight on the far left, a woman in orange holding a swaddled baby in her arms to the left of Christ, and the Holy Grail in the form of a chalice in front of Christ.

The Leonardo essay contains Pater's celebrated reverie on the Mona Lisa (" probably still the most famous piece of writing about any picture in the world "); the Botticelli essay was the first in English on this painter, contributing to the revival of interest in this artist.

Encyclopaedia Britannica online states, " Leonardo envisaged the great picture chart of the human body he had produced through his anatomical drawings and Vitruvian Man as a cosmografia del minor mondo ( cosmography of the microcosm ).

Wasserman, Ottino della Chiesa and others have pointed out that the measurements of both paintings are compatible with the altarpiece, and that it is an unlikely coincidence that Leonardo painted a picture that fitted the dimensions, at a time prior to the commission.

It also highlights the picture gallery of the alcázar, with works by Tintoretto, Veronese, Ribera, Bosch, Sánchez Coello, Van Dyck, El Greco, Annibale Carracci, Leonardo da Vinci, Guido Reni, Raphael, Jacopo Bassano and Correggio, many which were lost in the disaster of 1734.

Leonardo was documented as being at work on the original picture in Florence in 1501.
