The village was formed from two previously separate small communities-Kinlochmore to the north of the River Leven in Inverness-shire and Kinlochbeg to the south of the Leven in Argyll-following the construction of an aluminium smelter and associated housing for its employees.

Leven Park has two schools Yarm Primary School and Conyers secondary school.

This contains Aldi, A newsagents, Leven park chemists and two takeaways.

Interest died down until 1801, when there were two rival proposals for canals to Leven.

The River Leven, a tributary of the River Tees, flows through the village and links its two centres, High Green and Low Green.

In 1770 William Stirling and Sons built the printfield at Cordale, attracted by the fast clean flowing water of the Leven, two years later they purchased Dalquhurn Works.

During the filming of the latter, van der Keuken was himself the subject of a documentary film Leven Met Je Ogen / Living with Your Eyes.

It is the largest town in the Vale of Leven, the others being Balloch, Renton, Jamestown and Bonhill ; their combined population is over 20, 000.

Without Parliament, the Whigs gradually crumbled mainly due to the Rye House Plot, with The Earl of Melville, The Earl of Leven, Lord Shaftesbury and the Duke of Monmouth, Charles II's illegitimate son, both being implicated escaped to the United Provinces and Algernon Sidney, Sir Thomas Armstrong and William Russell, Lord Russell being executed for treason.

The Germans were targeting the shipyards, and the area in the vicinity of the yards was consequently hit, with Clyde and Leven Street being severely damaged.

He was captured by the Earl of Morton, and confined at Loch Leven before being sent back to England for execution.

The nearby Loch Leven, being the flood lake, was the name given to both the river and town.

The 1892 Bulmer's Directory of Hull and the East Riding states that the Manor of Leven was given to the Church of St John of Beverley by Edward the Confessor, and is listed in the Domesday Book as being amongst its possessions.

It is recorded that Mary, Queen of Scots used the ferry on the day she was transported to Loch Leven Castle where she was imprisoned in 1565.

With the title he inherited other properties, including Aberdour Castle in Fife, and Loch Leven Castle became less frequently used.

Thereafter Loch Leven Castle was no longer used as a dwelling, but it was preserved by Bruce as a picturesque focus for his gardens.

The nearby river Leven was used to transport the finished product.

In the meantime Millburn Park continued to be used by a new amateur side, Vale of Leven Old Church Old Boys Association ( usually known as " Vale Ocoba "), who took part in the Scottish Cup from 1931 until 1938, and who enjoyed success in first the West of Scotland Amateur League and then the Scottish Combinations: ironically, they also won the Scottish Qualifying Cup ( North ) in 1937.

In addition his work has been used on album covers by Live ( Throwing Copper ), The Beautiful South ( Quench ) and Jackie Leven ( Fairytales for Hardmen ).

The Leven Canal used to leave the navigation, in the tidal river section north of Hull Bridge, but is no longer connected to the river.

An army under the Earl of Leven occupied the North of England for some time.

Songwriter Mel Leven had, in fact, written several additional songs for the film including " Don't Buy a Parrot from a Sailor ", a cockney chant, meant to be sung by the Badduns at the De Vil Mansion, and " March of the One Hundred and One ", which the dogs were meant to sing after escaping Cruella by van.

In 1641 King Charles I in reward for his extraordinary military achievements at home and abroad appointed Leslie to the Scottish Privy Council and bestowed upon him, at Holyrood, the titles of Lord Balgonie and Earl of Leven, and made him captain of Edinburgh Castle.

Leven eventually accepted command of the forces raised for the invasion of England, and was in consequence accused of having broken his personal oath to Charles.

Also later in 1983 she recorded again in Dutch a song specially for the Dutch-speaking market ; " Ver Van Het Leven ".

The Scottish Socialist Party also has some support ; Jim Bollan, currently the only SSP councillor in Scotland, sits for the Leven ward on West Dunbartonshire Council.

It was established as a steamer pier for services along the lake when the Lakeside branch of the Furness Railway reached it in 1869, meaning that steamer services no longer had to negotiate the River Leven to Newby Bridge.

The micro-brewery was re-opened in 2011 by Harry Heskey ( former head brewer for Atlas ) and now provides River Leven Ales

As part of this expansion in Leven, Diageo culled a herd of roe deer living on the site to make way for new buildings.

Loch Leven is also a popular holiday base for tourists, who especially appreciate its proximity to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, Perth and St Andrews ( all lying within an hour's drive of Kinross ).

The local leisure centre in Kinross-Loch Leven Leisure also opportunities for all ages and abilities to stay active all year round.

Defeat for the club was first experienced with a 2 – 1 defeat to Vale of Leven in the 5th round in December 1876.

The name Ballachulish ( Ballecheles, 1522-Straits town ,) was more correctly applied to the area now called North Ballachulish, to the north of Loch Leven, but was usurped for the quarry villages at East Laroch and West Laroch, either side of the River Laroch, which were actually within Glencoe and South Ballachulish respectively.

Glen Coe then runs roughly west for about before turning north-west towards Loch Leven.
