Proposals among reunification supporters in Taiwan have varied in the recent past since the 1990s, with more extreme supporters in Taiwan such as Li Ao advocating " One Country, Two Systems " while more moderate supporters arguing to uphold the status quo until mainland China democratizes and industrializes to the same level as Taiwan.

In the 2000 presidential election, the party nominated writer and dissident Li Ao who ran a spirited but token campaign.

In the election, most members of the party supported James Soong, and in fact both Li Ao and the chairman of the New Party encouraged people to do so.

Li Ao () ( born April 25, 1935 ), is a writer, social commentator, historian, and independent politician in the Republic of China ( Taiwan ).

Li Ao was credited for his contributions to the democratic movement in Taiwan between the 1960s and 1980s.

Ironically, Li Ao had a long history of being an advocate of reunification.

Throughout the 1970s, Li Ao received much international attention for his imprisonment.

After his release, Li Ao continued to publish magazines and newspapers, criticizing the government.

Li Ao strongly supports the idea of " One country, two systems " proposed by Deng Xiaoping.

Since the 2000 presidential election, Li Ao has bitterly spoken out against pro-independence Nobel laureate Yuan T. Lee, who publicly supported Chen Shui-bian.

PFP legislators dismissed the accusation and responded that Li Ao should reveal his evidence to support his story.

On September 19, 2005, Li Ao returned to Mainland China for the first time in 56 years.

In 2010 Li Ao showed his opinion about motorsport when he got interviewed by Yang Lan: ' auto racing began in the U. S. in 1911, aiming at testing the American automotive industry.

Li frequently hosts a show on the Mandarin-language Hong Kong channel Phoenix TV called " Li Ao has something to say " ( 李敖有話說 ).

In Taiwan, Li Ao in his TV talk show in 2006 claimed that the Dalai Lama had commanded human sacrifices, asking his followers to " tear out human skin " for " some religious ceremony ".

Alfred Gerald Caplin ( September 28, 1909 – November 5, 1979 ), better known as Al Capp, was an American cartoonist and humorist best known for the satirical comic strip Li ' l Abner.

( Leviticus was actually much closer to Capp's later villains Lem and Luke Scragg, than to the much more appealing and innocent Li ' l Abner.

Also during this period, Capp was working at night on samples for the strip that would eventually become Li ' l Abner.

At its peak, Li ' l Abner was read daily by 70 million Americans ( the U. S. population at the time was only 180 million ), with adult readers far outnumbering children.

Capp was just as likely to parody himself ; his self-caricature made frequent, tongue-in-cheek appearances in Li ' l Abner.

Li ' l Abner was also the subject of the first book-length, scholarly assessment of an American comic strip ever published.

It was later reprinted in The World of Li ' l Abner ( 1953 ).

In 1954, when Capp was applying for a Boston television license, the Federal Communications Commission ( FCC ) received an anonymous packet of pornographic Li ' l Abner drawings.

During most of his tenure with Capp, Frazetta's primary responsibility — along with various specialty art, such as a series of Li ' l Abner greeting cards — was tight-penciling the Sunday pages from studio roughs.

This work was collected by Dark Horse Comics in a four-volume hardcover series entitled Al Capp's Li ' l Abner: The Frazetta Years.
