In 1961, Lord Dunrossil became the first and, to date, only Governor-General to die in office.

It is located on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin on a north-south orientation and is reached by Dunrossil Drive — named after the only Australian governor-general to die in office, Lord Dunrossil.

In the same Canberra churchyard, just a few paces from the Gibbes ' burial plot, lies the grave of Lord Dunrossil ( 1893-1961 ), Australia's 14th governor-general, who died during his Yarralumla tenure.

Sir William McKell ( 1947 – 53 ) was knighted during his term of office, but all the other governors-general until 1989 were already either peers or knights ; the only Australian peer was Lord Casey ( 1965 – 69 ).

After depositing £ 400 with the " Lord of the Manor " or " Patron " T Angus Morrison becomes Minister of St Mary's.
