Lund University () is one of Europe's most prestigious universities and Scandinavia's largest institutions for education and research, consistently ranked among the world's top 100 universities.

Lund University has eight faculties, with additional campuses in the cities of Malmö and Helsingborg, with 47, 000 students in more than 280 different programmes and around 2, 250 separate courses.

After the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658, the Scanian lands came under the possession of the Swedish Crown, which quickly founded the Lund University in 1666 as a means of Swedification.

The name was in some formal use until the late 19th century, when Lund University became the widespread denomination.

Lund Institute of Technology was established in 1961 but was merged with Lund University eight years later.

In recent years, Lund University has been very popular among applicants to Swedish higher education institutions, both nationally and internationally.

In 1992 Boel Flodgren, Professor of Business Law, was appointed rector magnificus ( or, strictly speaking, rectrix magnifica ) of Lund University.

After the secession of the Scanian lands to Sweden at the Treaty of Roskilde 1658, and the foundation of Lund University in 1666 to enhance the Swedification of the Danish provinces, the house was incorporated to serve as the university's main building and library.

The nearest buildings are the towering Lund Cathedral located 50 meters south, and the 19th century main building of the university immediately to the north.

Research began in the old pier building with one of the first projects being on the distribution, life history and abundance of marine fishes of Texas, by Dr. Lund and Dr. Gordon Gunter, who was Lund ’ s student and later followed Lund as Director.

Joseph Lund, the first to build a small one room log cabin with a lean-to, became discouraged and left it for Casper Christensen ( this building still survives and has been restored and relocated to This Is The Place Heritage Park in Salt Lake City ).

A cathedral was built in Lund before 1085, but it is difficult to know if the present building was built in the same place.

As a typical Romanesque building, Lund Cathedral is distinctively dark, with only small windows to allow sunshine to pass through.

Kungshuset, the " King's House ", is a building in Lund in Sweden, built by the Danish king Frederick II between 1578 – 84 and originally intended as the residence for the bishop of Lund.

The professor of Greek language at the time, Carl Georg Brunius, whose prolific work as an amateur architect is seen in many characteristic Lund buildings, took it as upon himself to improve the condition of the building.

The collection opened to the public in 1941 in a building close to the Lund University Library.
