As Isabel secretly begins two affairs with French men from different social classes and Magda's husband begins harassing Roxy, the two families fight over the ownership rights of a long-lost masterpiece.

Magda's mother Auguste married a Jewish businessman named Richard Friedländer ( born 1881 ) and moved with him to Brussels in 1908.

Magda's social connections and upper class bearing may have influenced Goebbels ' own enthusiasm.

Magda's first son, Harald Quandt, became a Luftwaffe pilot and fought at the front, while, at home, Magda strove to live up to the image of a patriotic mother by training as a Red Cross nurse and working with the electronics company Telefunken.

Alfred and the Professor sneak into the room as well, planning to stake Chagal, but they find Magda's body there instead.

Before the Professor can think of something else, he hears a noise and the hapless duo flee the crypt just as Chagal arrives with Magda's coffin.

From the living room, the characters could exit through various doors or passages, supposedly leading to the building's hallway, a bathroom, the kitchen, a bedroom ( Cassandra's ), and an imaginary vestibule ( never seen ) with access to two other bedrooms ( Vavá's and Caco's and Magda's ), but there were no sets for those places, and all the action took place in the living room alone.

The show has received criticism from fans of the book, a lot due to Ellie and Magda's appearances.

Harald was the only one of Magda's children to survive.

Magda's conflict and eventual decision to abide by her oath to Jaelle and to the Renunciates echoes Rohana's earlier inner conflict in choosing whether to leave her life for the Renunciates or to continue in her life as comyn nobility.

By the end of the novel, Jaelle has chosen to live with Peter as freemates in the Terran zone in Thendara, fulfilling Magda's role as translator and honouring her responsibility to her employers.

Later novels in the Renunciate series, especially Thendara House explores issues of female sexuality and matriarchal social structures, with particular emphasis on the character Magda's developing sense of herself as a lesbian, and as an independent woman raised to be a ' traditional Darkovan woman ' and yet living a liberated, autonomous life beyond the rule of fathers and husbands.

She perpetrated the acid attack which left a scar on Magda's face.
