In Japan, Osamu Kitajima's 1974 psychadelic rock album Benzaiten utilized electronic equipment such as a synthesizer and drum machine, and one of the record's contributors was Haruomi Hosono, who later started the electronic music band Yellow Magic Orchestra ( as " Yellow Magic Band ") in 1977.
He began his career in 1978 as a member of the pioneering electronic music group Yellow Magic Orchestra ( YMO ), where he played keyboards and was an occasional vocalist.
After working as a session musician with Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi in 1977, the trio formed the internationally successful electronic music band Yellow Magic Orchestra ( YMO ) in 1978.
