She calls Charlie Brown " Chuck " and Lucy " Lucille " and is the only character to do so ( although Peppermint Patty's close friend Marcie has been known to call Charlie Brown " Chuck " on occasion, she usually calls him " Charles ").

By the end of this particular story arc, Marcie, in a fit of exasperation, angrily informed Peppermint Patty exactly what the " funny looking kid with the big nose " actually was, which left Patty in stunned shock for several strips.

In a series of strips in 1984, Peppermint Patty was held back a grade for failing all of her classes — only to be allowed to return to her old class when her old desk in front of Marcie started to emit snoring noises, leading kids and faculty alike to suspect that the classroom was haunted by a " snoring ghost ".

Peppermint Patty's closest friend, Marcie, calls her " Sir ".

The first character to call Peppermint Patty " Sir " was not Marcie, but a pigtailed girl named Sophie in Peppermint Patty's cabin at summer camp, who appeared in the same series of strips in the summer of 1968 that introduced Marcie's predecessor, Clara.

Yet it was still obvious to Marcie that Peppermint Patty liked Charlie Brown as more than a friend, wishy-washy or not.

In one Sunday strip from 1979 ( drawn as part of a storyline in which Charlie Brown was in the hospital ), Peppermint Patty essentially admitted her feelings for Charlie Brown and, in the same strip, Marcie admitted loving " Chuck ," so far as to affirming her willingness to marry Charlie Brown.

As Marcie became a part of the regular cast, she appeared in the same class as Peppermint Patty, sitting in the desk behind her.

In the strip, Marcie was a soft-spoken voice of reason to Peppermint Patty, but in most of her earliest TV appearances she was usually portrayed as naïve and somewhat dim-witted.

An example of the former showed in the 1973 Emmy Award winning special A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving ; when Peppermint Patty throws a fit about the " dinner " Charlie Brown made for them, Marcie gently reminds her that he didn't invite her to dinner, but she invited herself.

The latter showed through in It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown when Marcie showed complete ineptitude in the kitchen, making several unsuccessful attempts at preparing eggs to color for Easter, and then later biting into one without removing the shell first (" Tastes terrible, sir "), all to Peppermint Patty's great consternation.

Marcie is close friends with Peppermint Patty, constantly addressing her as " sir " ( she called her " sir " in her first line in the strip ).

Originally, Peppermint Patty kept telling Marcie to quit, but eventually grew accustomed to the name.

Initially, Peppermint Patty addressed Marcie as " dorky " and, when talking to others, " my weird friend from camp ".

Marcie is essentially the complete opposite of Peppermint Patty ; where Peppermint Patty is more comfortable playing sports, the well-read Marcie prefers a quieter, more studious existence.

Although Marcie repeatedly professes her dislike of sports, particularly baseball, she will occasionally take part in whatever sport Peppermint Patty is involved in at the time, though more often than not Marcie, upon showing her lack of athletic prowess and lack of knowledge of the game, usually only succeeds in frustrating Peppermint Patty.

Like Peppermint Patty, Marcie also has an unrequited crush on Charlie Brown ( whom she usually calls " Charles ", or occasionally " Chuck ", like Peppermint Patty does ); she once confessed a fondness for Charlie Brown and would be willing to marry him if he asked her.

For a long time, this was a major annoyance to Patty, and she would continually snap at Marcie, " Stop calling me Sir!

Even this strip ended in a denial of sorts ; Patty brought Marcie up to the front desk of the hospital and tried to have her admitted as a patient, saying, " I think she's sicker than he is!

While Peppermint Patty is more likely to flirt with Charlie Brown and play mind games with him, Marcie is more frank in her admissions of her feelings, and often asks Charlie Brown in plain language if he likes her.

In so doing, Marcie also made Peppermint Patty face the reality that Snoopy was a beagle, and not the " funny-looking kid with the big nose " that Peppermint Patty often referred to him as.

Marcie also bears a strong resemblance to tennis star Billie Jean King, a fact reinforced when Peppermint Patty, in a moment of exasperation, refers to Marcie's " Billie Jean King glasses ".

Norda also gained a girlfriend in aspiring reporter Marcie Cooper.

Marcie also watches ( and gives encouragement ) and Snoopy works out with him ( showing how in-shape he is and how out of shape Charlie is in the process ).

Jack and Marcie take refuge in a bunkhouse and have sex, unaware that Ned's corpse ( with a slit throat ) rests on the upper bunk.

Marcie makes it all better though by kissing him on the cheek and whispering, " Happy New Year, Charles!

Unfortunately, on the way to the art museum, Charlie Brown, his sister Sally, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, and Snoopy inadvertently arrive in a supermarket and mistake it for the art museum.

In their second attempt, Marcie tries cooking four eggs on a waffle iron, then she unsuccessfully tries to put one in a toaster, then she takes that egg and the others and tries roasting the remaining eight eggs in the oven.

Peppermint Patty and Marcie's whole situation ends with the delivery of their eggs, upon which Marcie asks Peppermint Patty what to do with the eggs at this point, and she tells her that you put salt on them and eat them.

It is learned afterward that their school still wins the Junior Olympics, due to Marcie winning the 1500m ( and thus the decathlon ) and the disqualifications of Freddie Fabulous and The Masked Marvel ( for fighting on the track ).

Marcie arrives and Charlie Brown congratulates her on the win.

As expected, the dress does not come out good on Marcie's part, looking more like a sleeveless poncho, to which Marcie defends her mistake by saying she stated her poor sewing skills and the homespun outfit was Patty's idea, not hers.
