Marston's Brewery ( Marston's plc ) () is a brewery which owns over 2, 000 public houses in the United Kingdom and is the world's largest brewer of cask ale.

The character Lampatho Doria is generally thought to represent Ben Jonson, Marston's opponent in the controversy, while Quadratus may stand in for Marston himself.

Marston's style is, moreover, in places contorted to the point of unintelligibility: he believed that satire should be rough and obscure, perhaps because he believed ( as did many other writers of the time ) that the term ' satire ' was derived from the Greek ' satyr-plays '.

The first was The Malcontent in 1603 ; this satiric tragicomedy is Marston's most famous play.

Marston's tragic style is Senecan and although his characters may appear, on Eliot's own admission, " lifeless ", they are instead used as types to convey their " theoretical implications " ( Michael Scott, John Marston's Plays ).

It is not surprising that Marston's verse became sorrowful and melancholy.

Marston's next series was set during the reign of William the Conqueror ; its two main characters, surveyors for Domesday Book, are Ralph Delchard, a Norman soldier, and Gervase Bret, a former novice turned lawyer, who is half Norman and half Saxon.

That he became important to the company fairly quickly is suggested by his appearance as himself ( alongside Richard Burbage and Henry Condell ) in the induction to John Marston's The Malcontent.

The Moreton Arms is located on Springfield Lane, which is a Marston's plc pub that specialises in food and good ale.

Quigley is eventually taken to Marston's station in the Western Australian outback.

Marston's killing of aborigines is technically illegal, but he implies that it is tolerated by the local military police with whom Marston has " an arrangement.

He kills all but one of Marston's men, whom he sends back to Marston to tell him that Quigley is coming for him.

Marston gradually loses more and more men to Quigley, until Quigley is eventually captured by Marston's last two men.

The village's older pub, the Royal Oak, closed in February 2008 and a new Marston's Brewery pub / restaurant, the ' Kittiwake ', is now open at the junction of Menzies Road / Gordon Road.

John Marston's What You Will ( 1607 ) was also partly based on Platus.

According to their son, Marston's wife Elizabeth Holloway Marston was also involved in the development of the systolic blood-pressure test.

The word also appears in Marston's Dutch Courtezan ( 1605 )

The Dixie Arms Hotel-a Marston's pub that also has an Italian pizzeria.

The Blackfriars playhouse was also the source of other innovations which would profoundly change the nature of English commercial staging: it was among the first commercial theatrical enterprises to rely on artificial lighting, and it featured music between acts, a practice which the induction to Marston's The Malcontent ( 1604 ) indicates was not common in the public theatres at that time.

The production licence came to an end in 2005, and the licence to brew draught Bass has been taken up by Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries PLC, who started production at the Marston's Brewery, also in Burton.

It has also been known as The Marston's Stadium, as part of a sponsorship deal with Marston's brewery.

Eliot in particular admired Sophonisba and saw how Marston's plays, with their apparently stylised characters and bitter portrayal of a world where virtue and honour only arouse " dangerous envy " ( Sophonisba ; Act 1, scene 1, line 45 ) in those around them, actually bring to life " the kind of pattern which we perceive in our own lives only at rare moments of inattention and detachment ".

Marston's Brewery makes use of water from the famous Burton Well, reputedly discovered by Benedictine monks in the 13th century.

In 1999 the Company purchased Marston, Thompson & Evershed of Burton upon Trent ( including Marston's Brewery which had been founded in 1834 ).

Katherine Duncan-Jones accepts a 1600 – 1 attribution for the date Hamlet was written, but notes that the Lord Chamberlain's Men, playing Hamlet in the 3000-capacity Globe, were unlikely to be put to any disadvantage by an audience of " barely one hundred " for the Children of the Chapel's equivalent play, Antonio's Revenge ; she believes that Shakespeare, confident in the superiority of his own work, was making a playful and charitable allusion to his friend John Marston's very similar piece.

In non-Shakespearean roles, he probably played Pasarello in John Marston's The Malcontent ; indeed, Marston may have added the part for him when the play was produced by the King's Men.

Thomas Warton preferred Marston's satires to Bishop Hall's ; in the next century, however, Henry Hallam reversed this judgment.

In his lectures, William Hazlitt praised Marston's genius for satire ; however, if the romantic critics and their successors were willing to grant Marston's best work a place among the great accomplishments of the period, they remained aware of his inconsistency, what Swinburne in a later generation called his " uneven and irregular demesne.

Every Man Out contains an allusion to John Marston's Histriomastix in Act III, scene i, a play that was acted in the autumn of 1599 ; the clown character Clove speaks " fustian " in mimicry of Marston's style.

Quigley kills three of Marston's men ; a fourth escapes.

" As the troopers raise their rifles, a strong wind sweeps over the plain and suddenly the surrounding hills are lined with Aborigines, including Marston's servant.

After the troopers are gone, Quigley looks up to the hills to see that the Aborigines have vanished, except for Marston's servant, who turns and walks away.

Facilities in the stand include two pitch-view restaurants: the Marston's Suite and the Executive Club, together with the David Heath Suite, currently used by Warwickshire members.

On 12 July 2007, it was announced that Ringwood had been purchased by Marston's plc for £ 19. 2 million.

Also in 1604, he adapted John Marston's The Malcontent for staging by the King's Men.

Contemporary authors were bemused or surprised by Marston's change of career, with several of them commenting on its seeming abruptness.

Marston's verse was collected in 1892 by Louise Chandler Moulton, a loyal friend, and herself a poet.

Local residents have shown opposition to plans for the construction of a " superpub " complex in Ewloe by Marston's plc. ( Note: the order of these first two events has been questioned by James Bednarz, who argues that "( a ) Histriomastix was deliberately launched in the final weeks of 1599 to serve as a critique of Jonson's first " comicall satire " Every Man Out, and that ( b ) Jonson's disparagement of Histriomastix in Every Man Out ( III. iv. 29 ) was subsequently added to the acting script of his already completed play, before the end of the same year, as a rejoinder to Marston's initial attack.

Recovering, they witness an attack by Marston's men on the Aborigines who helped them.

He even saves a round by patiently waiting until one of Marston's men walks in front of another man, to which Quigley shoots through the first, killing the man, to kill the second.
