Martin's eldest brother, William ( 1772 – 1851 ) was by turn a rope-maker, soldier, inventor, scientist, writer and lecturer, who attempted to develop a rival philosophy to " Newtonian " science, allowing for perpetual motion, and denying the law of gravity.

Jeffrey Thomas ( born 1957 ) is a prolific writer of science fiction and horror, best known for his stories set in the nightmarish future city called Punktown, such as the novel Deadstock ( Solaris Books ) and the collection Punktown ( Ministry of Whimsy Press ), from which a story was reprinted in St. Martin's The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror # 14.

St. Martin's Press is considered one of the largest English-language publishers, bringing to the public some 700 titles a year under eight imprints, which include St. Martin's Press ( mainstream and bestseller books ), St. Martin's Griffin ( mainstream paperback books, including science fiction and romance ), Minotaur ( mystery, suspense, and thrillers ), Picador ( specialty books ), Thomas Dunne Books ( suspense and mainstream ), and Truman Talley Books ( business and speciality books ).

It was privately held until the late 1990s when it was sold to Holtzbrinck Publishers, LLC, a group of publishing companies held by Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck, a family owned publishing concern based in Stuttgart, Germany, which owns St. Martin's as well as other U. S. publishing houses, including Farrar, Straus and Giroux ( of mostly literary fiction ), Holt Publishers ( literary non-fiction ), and Tor-Forge Books ( science fiction, fantasy, and thrillers ).

As one of the year's best short stories – and subsequent winner the 2004 Hugo Award for a Novella – it was reprinted in two annual compendiums of science fiction: Science Fiction: The Best of 2003, edited by Karen Haber and Jonathan Strahan ( iBooks, Feb 2004 ISBN 0-7434-7919-X ), and The Year's Best Science Fiction: Twenty-First Annual Collection, edited by Gardner Dozois ( St. Martin's Press, Jun 2004 ISBN 0-312-32478-2 ).

Despite his involvement with Factory was brief, Sharp was an associate for a short while of Martin Hannett and wrote a book called Who Killed Martin Hannett which unfortunately upset Martin's surviving relatives owing to the large amount of untruths and fiction Sharp put into the book.

They continue distributing Walter Martin's various audio-lectures and are rebroadcasting his radio messages as a program called Essential Christianity.

A box office hit earning over $ 73 million ( making the movie the 9th highest-grossing of 1979 ), The Jerk has been praised as not only one of Steve Martin's best comedic efforts, but also one of the funniest of all motion pictures: In 2000, readers of Total Film magazine voted The Jerk the 48th greatest comedy film of all time.

WBR also enjoyed renewed success with comedy recordings in this period, transferring Richard Pryor from Reprise and signing rising star Steve Martin, whose second Warner album A Wild and Crazy Guy ( 1978 ) became one of the label's biggest comedy hits — it reached # 2 on the pop album chart, won the 1979 Grammy for ' Best Comedy Album ', and Martin's novelty single " King Tut " was a US Top 20 hit.

The late 1970s saw the publication of a few collections by poets working in traditional forms, including Robert B. Shaw's Comforting the Wilderness, ( 1977 ), Charles Martin's Room for Error, ( 1978 ) and Timothy Steele's Uncertainties and Rest ( 1979 ).

For example, neither Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga nor George R. R. Martin's 1970s short stories which share a backdrop are generally considered future histories.

Campanella appeared as himself in the Lassie episode " The Mascot ," first broadcast September 27, 1959, in a story where he is coaching Timmy Martin's " Boys ' League " team.

As the film tells Martin's story, he is a young man without funds.

This story is further documented by a variety of Gissing scholars and in the book A Sweet and Glorious Land: Revisiting the Ionian Sea ( St. Martin's Press, 2000 ) by John Keahey, and Pierre Coustillas.

In early drafts of the story, the character of Liz was an employee of the bank into which the team breaks during the film's opening scene, rather than Martin's ex-girlfriend.

A parallel is drawn to a story of him as a child, where Martin's own " gang ", was ruined by the arrival of a new boy in the school, implying that he is scared that Paul's arrival will see a similar process of losing his friends and his status to the new arrival ( this story is recounted by Martin himself in Series 1 and Mrs Beardsmore in Series 2 ).

The story of Carter's release including Martin's involvement, is portrayed in the film The Hurricane starring Denzel Washington although extensive portions of the account are fictionalized.

Martin has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Larry King Live on CNN, and has been the subject of a National Film Board production, The Journey of Lesra Martin, which tells the story of Lesra Martin's life.

Martin's front-page story for The West Australian won a Walkley award and she produced a series of another nine articles highlighting the impact on workers and their families.
