Prior to Megatron's apparent death, there had been a story in Marvel UK # 99 showing that after being attacked by the Predacons Megatron was transported to Cybertron.

When he was finally defeated by the Maximals, the original Megatron's spark was returned to his body ( in a deleted scene from the television series, that is available on the season 3 DVD 2 in the " Scene Selection " menu ), and history carried on as before.

Megatron's figure was released later on.

As noted previously, Megatron's original alternate mode, or " transformation identity ", was a handgun with attachments, but in Generation Two, this was changed to a tank due to safety and security concerns.

Also of note, Megatron's toy was repainted and re-released ( retooled to allow 4 new altmodes ) under the name Galvatron, beginning a tradition of repaints that would follow through with Armada and subsequent toy lines.

This was all part of Megatron's plan: a supposedly informant Starscream massacred the Autobot Senate and freed the prisoners, signalling revolution and anarchy in Kaon.

With an infusion of Megatron's spark energy to complete the concoction, Scourge was born, emerging from his pod as a dark twin of Optimus Prime, who proved that Megatron's programming had over-ridden any Autobot goodness within him.

He would seize his chance when Fortress Maximus was awakened, directing him to destroy Galvatron ( Megatron's new form ).

The Constructicons joined with Megatron's forces on Earth, and their first mission was an impressive one-Scrapper designed a machine to transfer the other Decepticons ' powers to Megatron, and while he battled Optimus Prime, holding the attention of the Autobots, the Constructicons invaded the Ark to destroy Teletraan I.

All the Transformers were rendered inactive in the explosion of the Ark II in 1999, but when they reactivated in 2001, Devastator was the main weapon in Megatron's attack on San Francisco.

Eventually Devastator was taken out for good when Megatron's reprogrammed Omega Sentinel, turned good by exposure to the Matrix, sacrificed both itself and Devastator to close the Keepers ' warp gate.

In the story Crossing Over by Fun Publications Grimlock was among Autobot troops of Optimus Prime who responded to the sighting of Megatron and arrived in time to save the dimensional traveling Autobot Skyfall from Megatron's wraith.

Starscream was a prominent figure in most of Megatron's schemes over the next year, but also made several further plays for power — teaming up with the Triple Changers Blitzwing and Astrotrain to betray Megatron, only to be double-crossed himself ; duping the paranoiac Autobot, Red Alert into allowing him to acquire the Autobots ' Negavator weapon ; incapacitating Megatron's Nightbird robot to maintain his own position of power ; getting drunk on energon, and more.

It was also revealed in The Transformers: Devastation that Starscream also spent some time as Megatron's bodyguard.

While on a brief mission to attack Red Alert on Velocitron, Starscream was able to secretly switch Megatron's map with a copy that would play an important role later, and in an attempt to acquire more troops loyal to him, recruited the disillusioned Autobot Mudflap into his service on Earth.

It was here he gained an Earthen alternate mode of a fighter jet and was also responsible for Megatron's reformatting into his Earth mode – a gigantic tank.

What the alien did not count on was that Megatron's spark had survived within the remains, and was siphoning energon from Unicron's body.

In a confrontation with Blaster aboard the bridge, Straxus's body was destroyed, leaving him a decapitated head, which in turn forced him to attempt the mental possession of Megatron's body.

After the end of the Generation 1 comics, the final UK annual printed a text story entitled " Another Time and Place ", which followed up on the events of the Ark crash and saw Bludgeon and his followers locate Megatron's body and revive it with Nucleon ( reflecting the release of Megatron as an Action Master figure in 1990 ).

The character listing / mini-poster that came inside Transformer packaging identified him as " Autobot Commander ", as contrasted with Megatron's title of " Decepticon Leader ".

However, Megatron's return with an army of Seeker clones would bring a halt to the peace proceedings, and the Ultracons would be reabsorbed into the Decepticons.

The return of the other Autobots and the discovery of Megatron's deception spelled the end of the battle, however, as Hound distracted Devastator with a gigantic hologram, and Optimus Prime blasted the giant at just the right spot to force the Constructicons to disengage.

The third seeming contradiction emerges in the third season, with the episode " Five Faces of Darkness, Part Four ", in which Rodimus Prime witnesses Megatron's creation in a flashback, and the animation shows the Constructicons surrounding him, however later fiction reveals that there were many Constructicons on Cybertron, and the ones who made Megatron need not have been the ones who formed Devastator.

Siding with Starscream after Megatron's disappearance, Devastator acted as Starscream's muscle, destroying Sideswipe at one point, and helping his new leader to take over Las Vegas.

He is almost invulnerable in his Tyrannosaurus Rex mode as shown with his battle with Megatron due to Megatron's primary weapon, his arm-mounted fusion cannon having little or no effect on Grimlock.

Ratchet pulled a double-cross, however, and had the Dinobots attack Megatron instead, resulting in a battle that ended with Megatron's disappearance.

They do this with the aid of an artifact known as the Golden Disk and Megatron's stolen ship, the Darksyde, which is equipped with a transwarp drive.

In the year 2005, ( the storyline year for the events of the 1986 release, The Transformers: The Movie ), Starscream, along with many other Decepticons, hijacked an Autobot shuttle bound for Autobot City ; Megatron's plan being to slip past the city's early warning systems and decimate the Autobots there.

Sixshot, upon seeing Starscream, defects to the Reapers, but Starscream takes him out with a shut-off code learned during his time as Megatron's bodyguard.

This comic series started with the history of the Autobots and Deceptions on Cybertron, two once peaceful factions that eventually came to war due to Megatron's desire for conquest.

Megatron's final orders to his troops still stood: work with the Autobots.

Many return to Megatron's side when he returns.

When news of Megatron's return reached Cybertron, hundreds of Decepticons rose up and rebelled, eager to get back to conquering.

The plan was derailed first by Starscream's Predacons and then by Megatron's return with an army of Seeker clones, with Grimlock taking a fatal shot meant for Magnus.

In the recent mini series Last Stand of the Wreckers it was revealed that when the sadisic renegade Decepticon known as Overlord took control of the Autobot pirson " The Last Resort " he freed Shockwave and gave him a hand picked crew of Decepticons in return for Shockwave disabling the safe guards he had implanted in him under Megatron's orders, just as he had done to Overlord's fellow Phase Six Decepticons Sixshot and Black Shadow

Megatron's sudden development of a transformation-freezing virus, spark-extraction and Vehicon technology and drones went without explanation in the animated series, with the large time gap between his return and the Maximals ' left to serve as a grey area in which these innovations occurred.

The Transformers: Cybertron fiction published exclusively in the newsletter exclusive to the Transformers Collector's Club established Primal's 10th Anniversary body in continuity, suggesting that Megatron's return to life in the Universe comics was in his own 10th Anniversary form.

Megatron's return saw the Ultracons reintegrated into the Decepticons.

After Megatron's return, they join in the assault on Iacon, combining into Bruticus to allow Megatron through a heavy door.

Tarantulas continued to influence Blackarachnia's body, forcing her to abandon a battle with the Maximals ( much to Megatron's fury ) to return his newly transmetalized body to the Predacon base.

The story was seemingly ignored when Transformers: Generation 2 began years later, as things were restored to the status quo established before the text story, such as Megatron's fate, and when Megatron does return in the Generation 2 comics, Bludgeon does not welcome him but instead decries him as a fool who should have stayed dead.

Megatron's return would mean a fresh campaign against the Maximals.

He was part of the Decepticon forces under Bludgeon, and was seemingly restored to prominence in the Decepticon hierarchy after Megatron's return.

With Megatron's subsequent apparent destruction battling the Autobot medic Ratchet, the stage was sent for Ravage's return in the U. S. comic.

Megatron's return with a massive army of Seeker clones forced Perceptor to seek a desperate solution-locating the missing Optimus Prime.
