Antarctica, the North Pole, Tibet, Peru, and Mount Shasta in California, USA, have all had their advocates as the locations of entrances to a subterranean realm referred to as Agartha, with some even advancing the hypothesis that UFOs have their homeland in these places.

Two paper balloons were recovered in a single day in Modoc National Forest, east of Mount Shasta.

It also contains redwood forests, along with the Sierra Nevada including Yosemite Valley and Lake Tahoe, Mount Shasta ( the second-highest peak in the Cascade Range after Mount Rainier in Washington ), and the northern half of the Central Valley, one of the world's most productive agricultural regions.

The area is centered on Mount Shasta, near the Trinity Alps.

Mount Shasta is a dormant volcano, but there is some evidence that it erupted in the 18th Century.

For example, using what became known as the Siskiyou Trail, Hudson's Bay Company trappers were the first non-natives to explore the southern Cascades in the 1820s and 1830s, establishing trails which passed near Crater Lake, Mount McLoughlin, Medicine Lake Volcano, Mount Shasta, and Lassen Peak.

Mount Shasta ( Karuk: Úytaahkoo or " White Mountain ") is located at the southern end of the Cascade Range in Siskiyou County, California and at is the second highest peak in the Cascades and the fifth highest in California.

Mount Shasta has an estimated volume of which makes it the most voluminous stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc.

Due to its relative isolation, Mount Shasta has a high degree of vertical relief and is the second-most Topographic prominence | prominent peak in California.

On a clear day, Mount Shasta can be seen from about away.

Mount Shasta was described by the poet Joaquin Miller:

There are seven named glaciers on Mount Shasta, with the four largest ( Whitney, Bolam, Hotlum, and Wintun ) radiating down from high on the main summit cone to below primarily on the north and east sides.

Over time, an ancestral Mount Shasta stratovolcano was built to a large but unknown height ; sometime between 300, 000 and 360, 000 years ago the entire north side of the volcano collapsed, creating an enormous landslide or debris avalanche, in volume.

Active volcanoes in the region include Mount Garibaldi, Mount Baker, Mount Rainier, Mount Saint Helens, which erupted in 1980, Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson, and Mount Shasta.

Forty miles farther north is Mount Moosilauke, Dartmouth's own mountain.

And on the summit of Mount Washington, where thirty-five degrees below zero is commonplace and the wind velocity has registered higher than anywhere else in the world, there is a kind of wisdom to be found that other men often seek in the Himalayas `` because it is there ''.
