Mount Sopris ( 12, 953 ft ) sits at the northwest end of the range and dominates the skyline of the lower Roaring Fork Valley and the town of Carbondale, serving as an unofficial symbol of the area.

It lies on the long ridge connecting the heart of the Elk Mountains with Mount Sopris to the northwest.

Mount Sopris is a high, twin-summitted mountain peak located at the northwest end of the Elk Mountains in western Colorado in the United States.

Mount Sopris is notable for having two summits, East Sopris and West Sopris, that are one-half mile ( 0. 8 km ) apart and have exactly the same elevation of 12, 965 feet.

In 2011 J. P. McDaniels petitioned to rename East Sopris " Mount John Denver " after the Colorado singer.

The highway roughly follows the Roaring Fork River along its entire route, offering scenic views of Mount Sopris in the lower end of the valley.

The south and west slopes of Mount Jefferson drain into Hell Roaring Creek, thence into Red Rock Creek, the Red Rock River, the Beaverhead River, the Jefferson River, the Missouri River, the Mississippi River, and into the Gulf of Mexico.

The highest point in the immediate area ( just outside the Dolly Sods Wilderness area in the Roaring Plains West Wilderness ) is Mount Porte Crayon at 4, 770 feet ( 1, 454 m ).

This is the Belasco House: the " Mount Everest of haunted houses ," originally owned by the notorious " Roaring Giant " Emeric Belasco, a six-foot-five perverted millionaire and supposed murderer, who disappeared soon after a massacre at his home.

The county is divided into nine township districts: Allensville, Bushy Fork, Cunningham, Flat River, Holloway, Mount Tirzah, Olive Hill, Roxboro, and Woodsdale ( which includes Bethel Hill ).

In the Autumn of 1862, the town was held by John Wharton's Confederate cavalry, who skirmished with Maj. Gen. Thomas L. Crittenden's men north of Mount Washington along Floyds Fork on October 1.

The main watershed is the West Fork of the Little Pigeon River, which flows from its source on the slopes of Mount Collins to its junction with the Little Pigeon at Sevierville.

This trail connected the Great Indian Warpath with the Rutherford Indian Trace, following the West Fork of the Little Pigeon River from modern-day Sevierville through modern-day Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and the Sugarlands, crossing the crest of the Smokies along the slopes of Mount Collins, and descending into North Carolina along the banks of the Oconaluftee.

In October 1939, delegates from Duck River, Mount Zion, Union, Mount Pleasant, Liberty, New Liberty and Ebenezer Associations, and the Pleasant Hill church of Kentucky, met at Garrison Fork Church, Bedford County, Tennessee, and organized the The General Association of The Baptists.

Below the junction of the East Fork, the White River flows another between Gibson, Knox, and Pike counties before draining into the Wabash River at the Indiana – Illinois border next to Mount Carmel, Illinois, in the vicinity of where the Grand Rapids Dam and Grand Rapids Hotel used to exist.

The West Fork starts in a valley on the north flank of Mount Baldy at an elevation of nearly, while the East Fork starts nearby, eventually joining together in a canyon near the town of Greer, forming the main Little Colorado River.

The West Fork, beginning at Red Box Saddle, runs eastward, and the East Fork, starting north of Mount San Antonio, flows south and west through a steep, rugged and precipitous gorge.

The Tuolumne source is the confluence of the Dana Fork ( from Mount Dana ) and the Lyell Fork ( from Mount Lyell ) in the Tuolumne Meadows.

Its origin is in Southwestern Utah, at the Navajo Reservoir in the Dixie National Forest, north of Zion National Park, and is formed by the confluence of the East Fork Virgin, that flows through Mount Carmel Junction on the east side of Zion National Park and Parunaweap Canyon, with the North Fork Virgin River, that flows from Navajo Lake through Zion Canyon in Zion National Park.

Several miles downriver from there the White River is joined by one of its main tributaries, the West Fork White River, which also originates at a glacier in Mount Rainier National Park, in this case, Winthrop Glacier.

Today the campus consists of and is bordered to the east by Mount Sentinel and the north by the Clark Fork River.

Approximately long from its mouth to its farthest headwaters on the East Fork, the river descends from wilderness areas in the Cascade Range on Mount Hood and flows through the agricultural Hood River Valley to join the Columbia River in the Columbia River Gorge.

Within Papua New Guinea Mount Wilhelm is the highest peak, at 4 509 m. There are several major rivers, notably the Sepik River ( 1 126 km long ), which winds through lowland swamp plains to the north coast, and the Fly River ( 1 050 km long ), which flows through one of the largest swamplands in the world to the south coast.

The Patate flows south and in Tungurahua Province it is joined by the Chambo River just upstream from the town of Baños de Agua Santa just north of the volcano Mount Tungurahua and becomes the Pastaza.

After crossing Mount Oread at Lawrence, the trail crosses the Kansas River by ferry or boats near Topeka, and crossed the Wakarusa and Vermillion River rivers by ferries.

Arriving at the Columbia at The Dalles and stopped by the Cascade Mountains and Mount Hood, some gave up their wagons or disassembled them and put them on boats or rafts for a trip down the Columbia River.
