Kaa reappears later on in the film when Mowgli runs away from Baloo, who is trying to return the boy to his own kind.

He runs into Shanti and Ranjan, but Baloo scares Shanti as Mowgli wanted him to.

The seven-year-old " man-cub " Mowgli, raised by wolves in the Indian jungle, is being tutored in the Law of the Jungle by Baloo the bear, but runs off in a temper when Baloo cuffs him for not paying attention.

In the film, it is Bagheera and not the wolves who first finds Mowgli, a young village child and he is the one who takes him back to the village.

When the villagers try to find Mowgli, he suspects that Baloo has brought him back ( he was right ).

Khan is obviously distrusting of Mowgli ( and all humans in general ), and attempts to scare him away by roaring in his face, but Mowgli stubbornly roars back and stares Khan down.

The pack offers to take Mowgli back, but he refuses to forgive them for casting him out earlier.

But after Mowgli talks back to him, he realizes that Mowgli is a human and yells at him for infiltrating the Dawn Patrol.

Lost by his parents in the Indian jungle during a tiger attack, a human baby is adopted by the wolves Mother ( Raksha ) and Father Wolf, who call him Mowgli the Frog because of his lack of fur and his refusal to sit still.

The best-known of them are the three stories revolving around the adventures of an abandoned " man cub " Mowgli who is raised by wolves in the Indian jungle.

Finally at the series ' conclusion, Mowgli leaves the jungle for human civilization, but still keeps strong ties with his animal friends.

She is a female Indian Wolf, member of the Seeonee pack, who while suckling her own cubs decides also to adopt a human " cub " that her mate Father Wolf has found wandering in the jungle, naming him " Mowgli " ( which means " frog " in the Speech of the Jungle ) because of his hairlessness.

Bagheera discovers young Mowgli in the jungle, and takes it to Raksha, who has just had cubs.

She raises him along with her own cubs and Mowgli soon becomes 10 years later well acquainted with jungle life.

During the movie, Bagheera often argues with Baloo, for he knows that as long as Shere Khan is in the jungle, the jungle is not safe for Mowgli despite all Baloo's attempts to protect him.

Kaa makes his last appearance in " The Spring Running ," as the teenage Mowgli reluctantly prepares to leave the jungle for the last time.

Mowgli, having grown up in the jungle, was a deep sleeper and was, if anything, soothed by the snake's caress rather than awoken.

Mowgli assumes that this will be an end of the matter, since in the jungle quarrels are usually settled quickly, but when he returns to the village with the hide and the buffalo the villagers drive him away, accusing him of witchcraft.

His mere presence in the jungle compels the wolf pack to send Mowgli away, since Shere Khan will kill him because he is human.

In the Disney sequel, The Jungle Book 2, Shere Khan returns to the jungle, humiliated and determined to kill Mowgli for tying the stick with fire to his tail, this time as revenge.

His death was not shown or mentioned, but was implied at the end of the film when Bagheera lets Mowgli, Shanti, and Ranjan come into the jungle to spend time with Baloo when he had been opposed to it when Khan was not trapped.

This event is what led Mowgli to be separated from civiliation and living in the jungle to survive for all these years.

The adult version of himself appears in the Jungle Cubs: Born to be Wild video ( again voiced by Tony Jay ), and in these cutscenes, he attempts to kill Mowgli when he ( Mowgli ), Baloo and Bagheera walk into his part of the jungle.

However, Mowgli longs to return to the fun of the jungle, and after nearly leading the other children of the village into the jungle, is punished by his adopted father for trying to lead them into danger.

Meanwhile, in the jungle, Shere Khan has returned to Baloo and Bagheera's part of the jungle to exact revenge on Mowgli.

Mowgli grows up with the pack, hunting with his brother wolves.

While herding buffalo for the village Mowgli learns that the tiger is still planning to kill him, so with the aid of two wolves, he traps Shere Khan in a ravine, where the buffalo trample him.

In later stories in The Second Jungle Book Mowgli finds and then discards an ancient treasure ( The King's Ankus ), not realising that men will kill to own it ; and with the aid of Kaa the python he leads the wolves in a war against the dhole ( Red Dog ).

Finally, Mowgli stumbles across the village where his adopted human mother ( Messua ), is now living, which forces him to come to terms with his humanity and decide whether to rejoin his fellow humans ( The Spring Running ).

Kipling stated that the first syllable of " Mowgli " should rhyme with " cow " and is pronounced this way in Britain, while in America it is almost always pronounced to rhyme with " go ".

When Mowgli is abducted by monkeys, Baloo and Bagheera set out to rescue him with the aid of Chil the Kite and Kaa the python.

Disney's 1967 animated film version, inspired by the Mowgli stories, was extremely popular, though it took great liberties with the plot, characters and the pronunciation of the characters ' names.

In a later Mowgli story written by Kipling titled " In the Rukh ", Grey Brother is depicted as still living with Mowgli even after Mowgli has grown-up, and watching over his infant son.

( Presumably Grey Brother remains with Mowgli, for the rest of His ( Grey Brother's ) life ).

Kahl animated Louie's interaction with Mowgli, Thomas his solo song and dance portions, while Lounsbery animated his memorable duet with a disguised Baloo.

Kit Cloudkicker seems to be a stand-in for Mowgli of The Jungle Book, since Baloo calls him by the same nicknames as Mowgli, like " Little Britches " and " Baby Bear " with the former calling the latter " Papa Bear " in return.

Starting 2010 the symbolic framework of the Welpen will be based on a modified version of the Jungle Book with two main characters: the boy Mowgli and the girl Shanti.
