Wyrd Sisters features three witches: Granny Weatherwax ; Nanny Ogg, matriarch of a large tribe of Oggs and owner of the most evil cat in the world ; and Magrat Garlick, the junior witch, who firmly believes in occult jewelry, covens, and bubbling cauldrons, much to the annoyance of the other two.

Later on, Granny and Nanny reveal to Magrat that the previous fool is actually Tomjon's and Verence II's father.

The main witches in the books are the Lancre Coven: Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, Magrat Garlick and later Agnes Nitt.

It could also be said that they each represent a different stereotype of witches: Granny is the classic fairy tale witch, Nanny the village wise woman and Magrat the modern romantic Wiccan.

Nanny was none too pleased with this development, as Magrat being the Mother forced Nanny " to be the ... Other One ".

She, Nanny Ogg and Magrat Garlick fended off the vampires who threatened to take over Lancre.

Even though she misspells most words in her letters ( like Nanny Ogg ) and is seen as unintelligent by other witches, she accurately predicts her death ( just like the witch Agnes Nutter, from Good Omens ) and tells Magrat not to let Granny and Nanny go with her because she knew that was the only way they would agree to go.

When Granny Weatherwax realizes Nanny Ogg has written an immensely popular cookbook but has not been paid by the publisher, the witches also leave for Ankh-Morpork to collect the money, as well as to attempt to recruit Agnes into their coven, to replace Magrat Garlick who left the coven when she became Queen of Lancre ( in Lords and Ladies ).

And except for those who know her well, such as Nanny Ogg, Magrat Garlick, Agnes Nitt, and Tiffany Aching, people do respect and / or fear her rather than like her.

At the end of Witches Abroad, Magrat Garlick, Nanny Ogg and Granny Weatherwax ( and Greebo ) left Genua bound for home, in Lancre.

Granny and Nanny take Diamanda and the captured Elf to Lancre castle, where Granny leaves Diamanda to the nursing of Magrat.

The three Witches are not at the Entertainment for different reasons ; Magrat does not go because she has found a letter in Verence's bedroom which angers her ( the details of the letter are not disclosed at this point ), Granny does not go because she has been whisked away from the Castle in a moment of passion by Mustrum Ridcully, Archchancellor of Unseen University who is a guest at the wedding ( he has brought the Librarian, Ponder Stibbons and The Bursar along as well ) and who was a former love interest for Granny in their ( much ) younger days and Nanny has been taken out to dinner by Casanunda ( whom she first met during Witches Abroad ).

After they have left the hypnotic influence of the Vampires, Agnes, Nanny Ogg and Magrat attempt to convince her to help them save Lancre, but apparently without success.

Finally, Nanny, Magrat and Agnes confront the Magpyrs, but look to be defeated when Granny Weatherwax comes in ( stumbling and tired in a very un-Granny like fashion ).

While Magrat and her daughter hide in Igor's dungeon quarters Nanny and Igor begin fighting against the Magpyrs, using the considerable stock of Holy water and other religious symbols that were originally collected by old Count Magpyr ( who is described as having been " a sportsman ").

Magrat's gentle personality allows her to serve as a mediator between the often-clashing Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg, but she does occasionally display a strong temper herself.

Nanny, Janie's grandmother, was a slave who became pregnant by her owner and gave birth to a daughter, Leafy.

Though Nanny tries to create a good life for her daughter, Leafy is raped by her school teacher and she becomes pregnant with Janie.

Contrary to Granny Weatherwax, and indeed the stereotype of witches in general, Nanny Ogg does not live in an isolated, crumbly rural cottage but in an expansive and well-looked after town house in the capital of Lancre ( with her eldest and youngest sons living to either side ), called Tir Nani Ogg (" Nanny Ogg's place ," and a pun on the Tír na nÓg, the Gaelic name for the Land of the Ever-Young ).

Nanny Ogg's bath night, as described in the novel Lords and Ladies, is an event feared by the entire population of Lancre, chiefly because she sings any and all of the above songs, accompanied by banjo, whilst bathing, and the tin bath amplifies her already overpowering vocal presence such that the audience is not so much " captive " as " hunted down ".

During the ceremony, Verence informs Nanny Ogg and Agnes Nitt that the Count has informed him that the Magpyr family intend to move into Lancre Castle and take over.

Lancre is famous for witches, especially since the publication of The Joye of Snackes ( an erotic cookbook ) by " A Lancre Witch ", i. e. Nanny Ogg.

It is set in his Discworld universe, and features Lancre witches Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg.
