New York's Suicide, L. A .' s The Screamers and Nervous Gender, Australia's JAB, and Germany's DAF were pioneers of synthpunk.

Inspired by openly gay punk musicians of an earlier generation such as Jayne County, Phranc, Darby Crash and Randy Turner, and bands like Nervous Gender, The Screamers, and Coil, queercore embraces a variety of punk and other alternative music styles.

After the Germs ended Don Bolles played with several other L. A. bands, including Steaming Coils, Celebrity Skin, Vox Pop, Nervous Gender and 45 Grave.

Nervous Gender is a punk band founded in Los Angeles, California in 1978 by Gerardo Velazquez, Edward Stapleton, Phranc and Michael Ochoa.

At this time they recorded the tracks for the compilation Live At Target, released as an LP and a video, both seminal not only in the punk scene but also as early industrial recordings ; fellow contributors Factrix and Z ' EV ( listed on this recording as " UNS ") were early industrial acts, and Nervous Gender found more acceptance among that scene initially.

Nervous Gender did not record in the studio again.

During their career Nervous Gender was called by one critic, "... the thorn in the side of the L. A. music scene ...".

It was at this point that a guitar-driven version of Nervous Gender emerged.

In early 1990, original members Gerardo Velasquez and Michael Ochoa along with Joe Zinnato ( a long time Ochoa collaborator ) revived Nervous Gender as a trio.

This formation did a series of 8 performances, and were working on what would have been the final Nervous Gender album ( working title " American Regime ") with producer Paul Cutler ( of 45 Grave ).

The final performance of Nervous Gender was on August 26, 1991 at Club A. S. S.

As of 2005, Edward Stapleton, Michael Ochoa and Joe Zinnato were reviewing all of the Nervous Gender material ( studio, live and rehearsal recordings and performance videos ) with an eye towards releasing a NG retospective.

On December 18, 2011, Keith Morris, Chuck Dukowski, Bill Stevenson, and the Descendents ' Stephen Egerton played the Nervous Breakdown EP in its entirety for the Goldenvoice 30th anniversary show called GV 30.

After Hansen played " Transfusion " by Nervous Norvus on the radio, DJ Steven Clean said that Hansen had to be " demented " to play that.

Drake played his final concert with the band on May 2 at The Venue in New Cross, London-he would continue his connection with Cardiacs in general, but moved on to join the band Nervous ( and would eventually embark on a long-delayed solo career by 2001 ).

In 2004, the Circle Jerks shot a live concert DVD as part of Kung-Fu Records ' live DVD series The Show Must Go Off !, in which the band played many songs from all six of their studio albums, plus – in nods to Schloss ' other current band and Morris ' salad days, respectively – covers of The Weirdos ' " Solitary Confinement " and Black Flag's " Nervous Breakdown ".

The 1993 Comic Strip film Detectives on the Edge of a Nervous Breakdown features a character introduced as " Shouting George from The Weeny " ( played by Jim Broadbent ).

Jason King was also the basis for Jason Bentley, played by Peter Richardson in the 1993 Comic Strip Presents episode Detectives on the Edge of a Nervous Breakdown.

The main characters are played by non-Basques ( Suárez is from Madrid, Novo from Galicia, Barranco indelibly Andalusian in popular consciousness after her role in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown ), and much of the action is set at the campsite in La Rioja, a liminal region between the Basque country and Castile.

Bassist Rob Graves had been in The Bags, keyboardist Paul Roessler had played in The Screamers and Nervous Gender, and Don Bolles had drummed for Nervous Gender and The Germs.

Born and raised in Hermosa Beach, California, he formed Black Flag at the age of 21 with guitarist Greg Ginn and performed on the band's 1978 debut EP Nervous Breakdown.
