The promise has three elements: posterity ( i. e., descendants-Abraham is told that his descendants will be as innumerable as the stars ), divine-human relationship ( Israel is to be God's chosen people ), and land ( the land of Canaan, cursed by Noah immediately after the Deluge ).

The first is the covenant between God and Noah immediately after the Deluge in which God agrees never again to destroy the Earth.

Divine revelation for the direction of the entire church comes from God to the President of the Church, who is viewed by Latter-day Saints as a prophet in the same sense as Noah, Abraham, Moses, Peter, and other biblical leaders.

In the 1976 article " Computer Power and Human Reason ," an excerpt of which is included in The New Media Reader edited by Noah Wardrip-Fruin and Nick Montfort, Weizenbaum notes how quickly and deeply people became emotionally involved with the computer program, taking offence when he asked to view the transcripts, saying it was an invasion of their privacy, even asking him to leave the room while they were working with the DOCTOR script.

The narrative is punctuated by a series of covenants with God, successively narrowing in scope from all mankind ( the covenant with Noah ) to a special relationship with one people alone ( Abraham and his descendants through Isaac and Jacob ).

God pronounces the world " very good ", but it becomes corrupted by the sin of man and God sends a deluge ( a great flood ) to destroy it, saving only the righteous ( Noah ) and his family, from whose seed the world is repopulated.

Each covenant is mediated by a great leader ( Noah, Abraham, Moses ), and at each stage God progressively reveals himself by his name ( Elohim with Noah, El Shaddai with Abraham, Yahweh with Moses ).

In parts of the Torah portion Noach (" Noah ") ( specifically,,, ) it is implied that the months are thirty days long.

Lebor Gabála Érenn is a pseudo-history of Ireland, tracing the ancestry of the Irish back to before Noah.

It said the Fathers saw foreshadowings of Mary's " wondrous abundance of divine gifts and original innocence " " in that ark of Noah, which was built by divine command and escaped entirely safe and sound from the common shipwreck of the whole world ; in the ladder which Jacob saw reaching from the earth to heaven, by whose rungs the angels of God ascended and descended, and on whose top the Lord himself leaned ; in that bush which Moses saw in the holy place burning on all sides, which was not consumed or injured in any way but grew green and blossomed beautifully ; in that impregnable tower before the enemy, from which hung a thousand bucklers and all the armor of the strong ; in that garden enclosed on all sides, which cannot be violated or corrupted by any deceitful plots ; in that resplendent city of God, which has its foundations on the holy mountains ; in that most august temple of God, which, radiant with divine splendours, is full of the glory of God ; and in very many other biblical types of this kind.

According to religious Judaism, any non-Jew who lives according to the Seven Laws of Noah is regarded as a righteous gentile, and is assured of a place in the world to come, the final reward of the righteous.

Japheth ( Hebrew יפת, Yapheth, Modern Hebrew: Yafet ; Greek Ἰάφεθ, Turkish Yafes, Iapheth, Latin Iafeth or Iapetus, Arabic يافث ) is one of the sons of Noah in the Abrahamic tradition.

In Arabic citations, his name is normally given as Yafeth bin Nuh ( Japheth son of Noah ).

Ham is further implied to be the middle son in Gen. 9: 24 ( which says Noah realized what his " younger son " had done to him.

Japheth is not mentioned by name in the Qur ' an but is referred to indirectly in the narrative of Noah ( VII: 64, X: 73, XI: 40, XXIII: 27, XXVI: 119 ).

He is characterized as thoughtful and intelligent, a kind-hearted young man who is on good terms with feuding family members Noah and Lamech, with the seraphim, and with visiting time travelers Sandy and Dennys Murry.

Noah is a wicked king.

Abinadi is arrested and brought before King Noah where he gives what is considered a very important discourse in the Book of Mormon ( chapters 12-16 ).

In his six hundredth year God, saddened at the wickedness of mankind, sent a great deluge to destroy all life, but because Noah was " righteous in his generation " God instructed him to build an ark and save a remnant of life.

Noah's is a rectangle, while Atrahasis was instructed to build his in the form of a cube ; Atrahasis has seven decks with nine compartments on each level, Noah has three decks, but is not given any instructions on the number of compartments.

According to White, a great influence on his academic career was Professor Noah Porter ( later, Yale's president ), who personally instructed him in rhetoric and remained a close personal friend until Porter's death.

The poet is instructed to emulate Noah by building another Ark for carefully selected Campbell Jacobites.

The concept of unclean animals is also mentioned in the Book of Genesis, when Noah is instructed to bring into the Ark all sorts " of pure beasts, and of beasts that are impure, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth ".

For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

The story of Noah and the ark is told in chapters 6 – 9 of the book of Genesis, and also told in chapter 71 of the Quran.

There is no ark in this account ; instead Noah and the others hide in a " luminous cloud ".

Like Noah, Deucalion is a wine maker or wine seller ; he is forewarned of the flood ( this time by Zeus and Poseidon ); he builds an ark and staffs it with creatures – and when he completes his voyage, gives thanks and takes advice from the gods on how to repopulate the Earth.

In the Mesopotamian epics, Atrahasis ( Utnapishtim ) is glorified as a hero for his epic deeds of building and loading the ark, whereas Genesis simply says, “ Noah did all that the LORD commanded him .” Obedience to God, not human courage, is the focus in the later Genesis narrative.

For example, he says that once one dismisses the false idea of Moses being the author of Genesis, " The story of Eve and the serpent, and of Noah and his ark, drops to a level with the Arabian tales, without the merit of being entertaining.

While looking in the direction of Yerevan, after the ark had landed on Mount Ararat and the flood waters had receded, Noah is believed to have exclaimed, " Yerevats!

According to Hebrew folklore, Noah sends a white raven to check conditions while on the ark.

Deucalion, with the aid of his father Prometheus, was saved from this deluge by building a chest ( literally “ chest ” like the Bible's “ ark ,” which means “ box ”) Like his Biblical equivalent Noah and Mesopotamian counterpart Utnapishtim, he uses his chest to survive the deluge with his wife, Pyrrha.

God gives Noah detailed instructions for building the ark: it is to be of gopher wood, smeared inside and out with pitch, with three decks and internal compartments ; it will be 300 cubits long, 50 wide, and 30 high ; it will have a roof " finished to a cubit upward ", and an entrance on the side.

God spells out to Noah the dimensions of the ark, 300 cubits by 50 by 30, approximately 137 by 23 by 14 meters ( 440 feet long, 73 feet wide, and 43 feet high ), with three internal divisions ( which are not actually called " decks ", although presumably this is what is intended ), a door in the side, and a sohar, which may be either a roof or a skylight.

In Genesis 1, God created the three-level world as a space in the midst of the waters for mankind ; in Genesis 6-8 ( the flood story ) he fills that space with waters again, saving only Noah, his family and the animals with him in the ark.

Talmudic tractates Sanhedrin, Avodah Zarah and Zevahim relate that, while Noah was building the ark, he attempted to warn his neighbors of the coming deluge, but was ignored or mocked.

In order to protect Noah and his family, God placed lions and other ferocious animals to guard them from the wicked who tried to stop them from entering the ark.

As there had been no need to distinguish between clean and unclean animals before this time, the clean animals made themselves known by kneeling before Noah as they entered the ark.

According to Sanhedrin 108B, Noah was engaged both day and night in feeding and caring for the animals, and did not sleep for the entire year aboard the ark.

The raven created problems, refusing to leave the ark when Noah sent it forth and accusing the patriarch of wishing to destroy its race, but as the commentators pointed out, God wished to save the raven, for its descendants were destined to feed the prophet Elijah.

` Abd Allah ibn ` Abbas, a contemporary of Muhammad, wrote that Noah was in doubt as to what shape to make the ark, and that Allah revealed to him that it was to be shaped like a bird's belly and fashioned of teak wood.

Noah spent five or six months aboard the ark, at the end of which he sent out a raven.

The Bahá ' í scripture Kitáb-i-Íqán endorses the Islamic belief that Noah had a large number of companions on the ark, either 40 or 72, as well as his family, and that he taught for 950 ( symbolic ) years before the flood.

By the eighth edition ( 1853 – 1860 ), the encyclopedia said of the Noah story, " The insuperable difficulties connected with the belief that all other existing species of animals were provided for in the ark are obviated by adopting the suggestion of Bishop Stillingfleet, approved by Matthew Poole ... and others, that the Deluge did not extend beyond the region of the Earth then inhabited ".

According to legend, when her father was denied a place in the ark by Noah, Cessair advised him to build an idol.
