Alberta is located in the northwestern quadrant of North America, in a region of low population density called the Interior Plains ( and referred to by one author as North America's " Empty Quarter ").

Winters can be severe in the Interior and the North.

Broad shallow seas advanced across central North America ( the Western Interior Seaway ) and Europe, then receded late in the period, leaving thick marine deposits sandwiched between coal beds.

Marine regression also resulted in the loss of epeiric seas, such as the Western Interior Seaway of North America.

These chalk beds were deposited at the bottom of what was once the Western Interior Seaway, a large shallow sea over what now is the midsection of the North American continent.

In the middle and late Cretaceous Period, about 100 million years ago, the San Luis Valley lay on the shore of or beneath the Western Interior Seaway a shallow sea which divided North America into two parts.

The term Great Plains is used in the United States to describe a sub-section of the even more vast Interior Plains physiographic division, which covers much of the interior of North America.

In a letter from the United States Secretary of the Interior responding to a Senate Resolution dated June 30, 1914, a Report on the Condition and Tribal Rights of the Indians of Robeson and Adjoining Counties of North Carolina was commissioned.

This is the beginning of the vast Interior Plains of North America.

During the opening of the Atlantic Ocean, sea level was so high that a Western Interior Seaway formed across North America from the Gulf of Mexico to the Arctic Ocean.

In his famous book chronicling the expedition, Maximilian Prince of Wied's Travels in the Interior of North America, the Prince wrote, " I had been indisposed, as well as my huntsman, since I left Louisville, and was not in a mood properly to appreciate the fine, lofty forests of Indiana, the road through which was very bad and rough.

Many Chinese remained in the province's Interior and North long after the gold rushes.

Usually also included are the Afroasiatic languages native to the North Africa, the Horn of Africa, the Arabian Peninsula and the Near East, as well as the Dravidian languages of the Indian Subcontinent ( sometimes extended to Elamo-Dravidian, connecting India and the Persian Plateau ).

The national park lies within the Colorado Plateau geographic province of North America and straddles the southeastern edge of the Paunsagunt Plateau west of the Paunsagunt Fault ( Paunsagunt is Paiute for " home of the beaver ").

These are roughly the northeast of the Tibetan Plateau, the Ordos Loop and the North China Plain.

The southern part of the Canadian Cascades, particularly the Skagit Range, is geologically and topographically similar to the North Cascades, while the northern and northeastern parts are less glaciated and more plateau-like in character, resembling nearby areas of the Thompson Plateau.

The Antarctic beech forest, found at the end of the North Plateau Road, is estimated to be up to 1, 000 years old and forms the largest compact southern beech forest in existence.

The city is nestled in the heart of the Cumberland Plateau of the Appalachian Mountains and the banks of the North Fork of the Kentucky River pass through the city, as well.

San Angelo falls on the southwestern edge of the Edwards Plateau and the northeastern edge of the Chihuahuan desert at the juncture of the North and South Concho rivers.

In 1989, High Point sustained minor wind damage from Hurricane Hugo as it raced through the western Piedmont Plateau of North Carolina after making landfall 5 hours away in Charleston, South Carolina.

Most of New Zealand's weather patterns cross the country from the west, and the city lies in the rain shadow of the North Island Volcanic Plateau and surrounding ranges such as the Kaweka Range.

Large regions of alpine tundra occur in the American Cordillera in North and South America, the Alps and Pyrenees of Europe, the Rift Mountains of Africa, and a large portion of the Tibetan Plateau.

Another series of mountains bounds the southern Great Valley to the west, including North Mountain and Great North Mountain, the Allegheny Front, Powell Mountain, Cumberland Mountains, Walden Ridge, and the Cumberland Plateau.

The Pacific Coast Ranges are part of the North American Cordillera ( sometimes known as the Western Cordillera, or in Canada, as the Pacific Cordillera and / or the Canadian Cordillera ), which includes the Rocky Mountains, Columbia Mountains, Interior Mountains, the Interior Plateau, Sierra Nevada Mountains, the Great Basin mountain ranges, and other ranges and various plateaus and basins.
